Salary range: £35,223 - £38,934 per annum (Pending pay award)
Work location: London
Hours per week: 36
Contract type: Temporary for 12 months
Closing date: 3rd July 2023
About Us:
Play a key role in improving the lives of refugees and asylum seekers
At the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea, we put local people and businesses at the heart of everything we do, working in partnership with them to provide quality services that are responsive, effective and efficient. Committed to acting with openness, honesty, compassion and humility, we aim to listen and understand in a way that is respectful, encourages involvement and meets the needs of all our communities.
The Role:
The wars in Ukraine and Afghanistan are two of the global conflicts that have resulted in an increase in refugees and asylum seekers arriving in the UK. Here in Kensington and Chelsea, we’re committed to welcoming these people and offering all the help we can, and in this role you’ll support them with their general queries, and provide troubleshooting, signposting and coordinating activities. You’ll have a particular focus on assisting with the resettlement of Ukrainian families, and with this in mind you should be ready to work with sensitivity and compassion.
You’ll have a wide range of additional responsibilities, including the development of support plans that assist refugees and asylum seekers to access settled accommodation, and the maintenance of positive working relationships and liaison with our partners and stakeholders. We’ll also expect you to assist with induction and UK cultural orientation, and help with the provision of local integration and the coordination of donations and offers of support from local communities.
Please refer to the Job Description for more information.
About You:
To be a success in this role you’ll have experience of working with refugees, asylum seekers or those with no recourse to public funds, a good understanding of the problems and issues they might face, and practical knowledge of local government services and partnership arrangements. You’ll have worked with the public in either a social care, housing and/or family support context, and in addition to knowledge of the asylum process and asylum seekers’ rights, we’ll expect you to be capable of working with colleagues in different teams to deliver positive outcomes.
In order to remain outcome focused you’ll have excellent organisational and time management skills, and be capable of coordinating a high number of cases and completing tasks promptly and efficiently. A superb communicator with the ability to influence stakeholders, you’ll be a natural problem solver and lateral thinker, and be committed to making a positive difference to the lives of everyone you work with. We’ll also expect you to be capable of dealing with ambiguous situations, adapt to change and respond effectively to fluid, emerging situations.
Join us, and you can look forward to a package that includes a competitive salary, a high-quality pension scheme and generous annual leave plus bank holidays. And as a key member of our team, you’ll also have plenty of opportunities for development and progression within our organisation. We’re committed to promoting equality and respecting diversity, and welcome applications from all sections of the community. We’re a Disability Confident Employer – committed to ensuring that our recruitment and selection process is inclusive and accessible.
