This unique role offers rotation between two busy central London teaching hospitals: University College London Hospital (UCLH) and Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH), located just 20 minutes’ walk away. This is an ideal opportunity for a radiographer looking to enhance existing Radiographic skills & develop specialist paediatric Radiography skills in both a busy teaching hospital and a specialist paediatric centre.

This role would suit those with significant postgraduate Radiography experience, utilising their clinical skills in a supportive and innovative department, where maintaining an excellent diagnostic service to patients and their families is key.

You will be working closely with other members of the multidisciplinary team in providing this service. Good communication skills and excellent team working abilities are essential for this post.

The successful candidate will rotate through UCLH Satellite Sites, all within 20 mins walk of UCL in addition to GOSH.

The role involves participation in the out of hours rota delivering OOH CT Service at UCLH.

This is an exciting role for a dedicated and enthusiastic radiographer with desirable enhanced practice qualification.

You will be providing a high-quality diagnostic service whilst maintaining a safe working Imaging environment.Assess a referral or request form, and justify it under radiographic regulations and locally agreed protocols.

  • Prioritise patients to ensure optimum efficiency and service quality.
  • Liaise with referring clinicians to clarify or discuss requests for complex radiographic procedures.
  • Act as a point of specialist advice for referrers, other clinical staff, patients and their relatives.
  • Appropriately adapt standard techniques to ensure that radiographic procedures are undertaken appropriately for patients with limited capabilities.
  • Undertake the more complex radiological procedures, utilising skills, knowledge and experience, calculating and setting exposure parameters and doses.
  • You will ensure adherence to IR(ME)R 2017 across the department.
  • You should have a flexible and pragmatic approach to your work, exceptional organisational skills that will enable you to manage a varied workload ensuring safe and clinical practices.

The post holder will be required to perform a wide range of radiographic procedures to a high standard and provide professional support to colleagues, radiographic, radiological, nursing and all other staff groups. The post holder will supervise, support and assist students and newly qualified radiographers in service delivery and personal development

Clinical Responsibilities
  • Assess a referral or request form, and justify it under radiographic regulations and locally agreed protocols.
  • Prioritise patients to ensure optimum efficiency and service quality.
  • Ensure that the protocol used for an examination is suitably matched to the clinical indications for the procedure.
  • Liaise with referring clinicians to clarify or discuss requests for complex radiographic procedures.
  • Act as a point of specialist advice for referrers, other clinical staff, patients and their relatives.
  • Ensure that patients, relatives and staff are appropriately informed and reassured of any discussions relating to patient procedures.
  • Assess the physical, mental and communication abilities and needs of individual patients and respond appropriately.
  • Ensure that unexpected abnormalities seen are brought to the attention of the medical staff of the department, and the referring clinician, and that the patient is managed in an appropriate and supportive manner.
  • Work unsupervised, seeking advice from colleagues and senior radiographic or medical staff when required.
  • Undertake IV injections when appropriately trained.
