Job description
About Fam
Fam is a social innovation studio at the intersection of regeneration and families. We partner with clients to design breakthrough foresight, strategic products, and services where young people and families can thrive within the Earth's limits.
A little about the job
A lack of capacity to design, build and maintain solar systems continues to be a major barrier to their deployment across Africa and the benefits that independent electrification would provide. Fam and our partners at Open Energy Labs are working on an exciting new project supported by Innovate UK to help solve this.
Your role will be to manage a feasibility & prototyping project for an exciting new app enabled hardware product that will allow families and entrepreneurs in sub-Saharan Africa to manage their home solar systems. You will be working with, and leading, a team of incredible in-house and external designers and engineers as well as working in close collaboration with partners, entrepreneurs and families in Rwanda.
This is an 8 month, part-time role starting 1st March 2023 with full PAYE employment benefits including competitive salary, pension contributions, sick pay and 25 days holiday pro rata.
Key outcomes of the role
- Successful project delivery within schedule and budget as per existing plan
- Considered plan for scaling of the project and full commercialisation
- Supporting the business to apply for additional funding linked to this work
Essential skills and experiences that you will have
- 5+ years as a project manager
- Excellent project, task and budget management skills with experience delivering projects within a start-up or consultancy environment
- Delivered projects involving hardware, electronics and software with budgets in excess of 100k GBP
- Managing multi-skilled teams of 10+ people both internal and external
- Strong communication and effective multi-stakeholder project reporting
- Delivered projects in collaboration with external grant/fund providers and partners
- Familiar with the solar power technology, infrastructure and policies
Some nice to have but not essential skills and experiences
- Experience of working with partners, clients and customers outside of Europe and North America and specifically in sub-Saharan Africa
- Worked on education link products and services for young people and/or adults
