Overview

An experienced Product Owner- Senior is required by Mastercard Real Time Payments Product to support Live Market Customers and our Payments Infrastructure Products throughout their lifecycle.

Mastercard RTP Payments Products (a range of account to account payment services), are sold globally to national schemes or banking coalitions, either as managed services, or as software sales (where the client takes responsibility for the day to day running of the service). Each product implementation is unique to the customer, localised to meet the regulatory requirements and customer needs of the market.

The Live Markets Product Owner Senior will focus on the needs of live markets and ensure we support and deliver to meet our product and customer requirements and in a commercially focused way that protects our brand and shareholder returns.

We are looking for an individual with a Product Owner background with experience in products in a regulated environment, who can also demonstrate working in a complex multi-stakeholder global environment. This individual will have excellent time management, analysis, communication and influencing skills, have ability to work to differing priorities, work our stakeholders, follow defined governance and processes required to support the needs of our Live Markets.

The Product Owner Senior contributes to the development of our people, products, functions and processes.

You work alongside other Seniors Managers, Business Analysts, Product Owners and Product Managers and reports into a Manager.

The Senior, Product Owner of our market leading payment products works collaboratively with the Product Management, Engineering and Delivery functions, this is a fantastic opportunity for a Product Owner to grow the delivery of their product vision.

You have ultimate accountability for the integrity of your feature backlogs and alignment with product roadmaps, proactively identifying and resolving issues.

You will adhere to consistency of processes, artefacts, and ceremonies for your Products within Live Markets. This will involve adoption and advocacy of behaviours, techniques, and tooling to optimise execution performance and outcomes.

Role

  • Collaborate with the Product team to understand product requirements and define the ‘what’ during product feature development

  • Be a passionate advocate of the product vision and act as the voice of the customer throughout the development cycle

  • Manage prioritisation of your product backlog to be continually aligned to business value

  • Ensure the product backlog is visible to stakeholders to ensure transparency

  • Accept completed epics and stories according to the Definition of Done

  • Participate to resolve blockers

  • Contribute to inspiring platform/product visions, features derived from business needs, market opportunities, and technology trends

  • Using the Working Backwards method, decomposes business requirements and customer experiences into features and functions that drive the platform/product roadmap

  • Works with Product Owners, Technical Program Managers, Developers, designers, and internal customers to define the details behind the business requirements

  • Collects and shares user stories with engineering teams

  • Acts as the voice of the business customer and contributes to the platform services

Contribute to a small global team of inhouse and supplier team members, working both remote and in person.

  • Ensures own compliance to goal setting and performance appraisal process

  • Drive quality in the their work performed.

  • Acquire subject matter expertise and provide thought leadership in our products, customers and processes, to drive excellence in our services.

  • Contribute to develop and grow the Live Markets teams and services.

  • Communicate effectively on delivery, product status and be pro-active in identifying risk and managing escalations within the management framework.

  • Identify and communicate effectively with your stakeholder groups, including customers, product, delivery, support, and operational teams at all organisational levels, internal and external with a mix of in person and remote collaboration.

  • Contribute to effective presentations and workshops.

  • Provide structured Product Ownership to support complex change, problem and incident management processes.


  • Own and review product artefacts to communicate the backlog, sprint and release scope.

  • Assesses and manage own workload.

  • Contribute to team tasks, planning, reporting, approaches, and methods.

  • Support the other product and delivery teams through plan, build and release, to achieve a quality outcome.

  • Liaise between business and IT, Product architects and across functions to ensure that solutions are appropriate, meet stakeholders needs and are aligned with roadmaps and governance.


Skills & Experience

  • You have proven success in:

o Team facilitation, contribution.

o Planning, executing work across a team and work stream.

o Communicating effectively to internal and external stakeholders both in person and remote.

o Applying Product Ownership and Management with customers in a complex change environment.

o Defining Features for architecture, design, development, test, release, implementation and support teams.

o Structured Product Owner techniques, to define and deliver features.

O Contributing to cross functional conversations and workshops with diverse customer stakeholders.

o Delivery lifecycle approaches, both waterfall and agile.

o Applying delivery tools (e.g. Jira, ALM) to drive quality.

o Payments, or other operation critical or financial services industry experience.

o Qualification in an applicable or numerate or commercial discipline.

  • Desirable track record in:

o Contributing to globally diverse teams.

o Delivering to a globally diverse customer community

o Delivering with a mix of in person and remote working for yourself and your customers.
