Job Title: Seasonal Visitor Experience Steward
Department: Garden Experience
Reporting to: Duty Manager/Garden Experience Supervisors
Duration: Fixed Term Contract (May 2023 – January 2024)
Rates of Pay: 16-17 years £7.53: 18-20 years £8.60: 21 years and over £10.75.
Role Overview:
With our main summer season nearly upon us, we are looking for enthusiastic and friendly people to join the Garden Experience Team, mainly during the school holidays.
This role will suit an approachable, proactive, and customer-focused individual who is happy working outdoors in all weathers. You will often be the “first face” for our visitors and therefore will set the tone for their experience, making a real difference to their day.
The role is twofold:
- Welcoming visitors to Heligan, being a point for information and queries, helping to support visitors with access needs and helping to orientate visitors around the site.
- Delivery of family events and workshops in the school holidays, in an engaging, fun and friendly manner. Plus facilitating additional events designed to attract a range of diverse visitors throughout the year here at Heligan.
Principal purpose of role
- To provide a warm, friendly welcome (and goodbye) to all visitors to Heligan.
- To oversee the ticket office & catering areas during peak busy times, helping with the queues that may form, litter picking and being an orientation point for people to ask questions about what to see and do.
- To monitor the rope bridge and play areas during busy times.
- To assist with duties in the car park and coach park, when necessary.
- To assist other departments as and when required during busy times, as directed by theDuty Manager.
- To assist visitors with access needs.
- To share information about Heligan and its history with our visitors and answer queries they may have.
- Work together as a team to organise, prepare and deliver events, workshops, games and activities using a variety of different materials and resources.
- Ensure Health & Safety procedures and risk assessments relating to visitors, staff and materials are observed and adhered to. Completing checks of event set up and reporting any issues to Events Supervisor.
- To work as part of a team, covering a seven-day week, including weekend days, holiday, and sickness cover and evenings (arranged by rota).
Area of responsibilities/tasks:
- Ensure health & safety procedures relating to all areas and activities are adhered to.
- At Heligan we believe in the regenerative power of beauty so it is essential that visually, the high standard of presentation is maintained (ensure litter along the paths is picked up).
- To report any site or customer issues to the Duty Manager.

Desirable skills:
- Experience working in a customer facing role, ideally at a visitor attraction.
- An interest in the outdoors/gardens and a desire to learn about the History of Heligan to share information with visitors.
