The Role
Pinnacle Group are looking for an experienced, skilled and enthusiastic indidivdual to work as a caretaker at a school in Enfield.
The overall aim of the caretaking role is to ensure that the internal and external School facilities are available, fully functional, H&S compliant and aesthetically pleasing where this falls within the remit of the Site Caretaking team.
The suitable candidate will be working on a rota. The hours will be 6am to 3pm, 8am to 5pm and 1pm to 10pm, Monday to Friday. The Caretakers will take it in turns to work these different shifts.
Duties/Key Responsibilities
- Carry out day to day Caretaking duties according to the daily schedule such as attending to any repairs logged on the Help Desk or reported by Site Manager.
- Setting up for any School assemblies Parents Evenings when necessary
- Carrying out daily litter pick of School grounds, changing external bins, sweeping external areas, checking toilets etc
- Carry out defined Planned Preventative Maintenance responsibilities in accordance with each School’s schedule such as, Twice weekly flushing of outlets, weekly Sprinkler Alarm test, Weekly Fire Alarm Test, Monthy Fire Door and Fire Extinguisher Checks etc
- Carry out initial investigations into reactive job requests made during the day relating to deficiences and making temporary or permanent repairs
- If repairs cannot be made then notifying the Site Manager of the need to call another service provider in accordance with rpescribed procedures and timescales.
- Respond to emergency situations such as floods, floor spillages, body fluid clean up and arranging temporary or permanent rectifciation in accordance with prescribed procedures and timescaled.
- Respond to requests for collection of deliveries, parcels etc and deliver to Finance office or other appropriate area.
- Be observant for H&S issues at all times and ensure that any issues are rectified, made safe and reported to Site Manager or Senior Caretaker
- To be available for lettings hirers of the premises outside of normal hours with agreement of Site Manager or Senior Caretaker
- Maintaing communication in the event of any incidents to ensure availability of the School facilities
- Where appropriate, sign in all contractors and any other external visitors in FM office and reception, ensuring all relevant forms are filled in, DBS details are confirmed, escort, liaise and assit service providers on site to undertake remedial work or Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPMs)
- Carry out minor repairs and decoration works
- Participate in cleaning and deep cleaning activities as and when required
- Being proactive by noticing any deficiencies in the facilitiesa and either ectifying if withing capabilities, or bringing the defect to the attention of the Site Manager or Senior Caretaker
- Carrying out any other duties as assigned by Site Manager that relate to maintaining the facilitie in a clean, functional and aesthetically pleasing state
- Be flexible in shift pattern to cover colleagues absences due to sickness and annual leave where required
- Checking salt during winter months, spreading salt in areas affected according to snow plan
- Remove any graffitti around site
- Cleaning and preparing areas for external lettings such as Sports Hall, Gymnasium and Astro Pitch
- Locking and unlocking the School site. Ensuring all areas are locked and secured before setting alarm and leaving site
Skills Required
- Range of general handyman skills such as painting and decorating, minor plumbing, carpentry and competent to use power and hand tools
- Good customer service skills
- Amenable and approachable personality
- Ability to liaise with and assist external service providers and an ability to work in a team
- Ability to multi skill
- Willingness to learn new skills and undertake training to develop role
- Flexible and adaptable in approach
- Able to work in a team and lone work
