UK Independence Team – Risk Management – Independence Associate (Personal Independence)

Within EY, the Risk Management (RM) group (which covers audit Independence, anti-bribery, anti-money laundering, data protection, enterprise and business risk, and other risk and regulatory areas), is responsible for the promotion, protection and support of risk management within the business. The group aims to uphold our business standards, maintain and enhance the value of the brand, and ensure that the firm complies with the rules and regulations imposed on it in relation to the conduct of its business.


The UK Independence Team forms part of the UK&I Risk Management Group (“RM”) which reports directly to senior management


The Opportunity:


A vacancy now exists for an Associate within the Personal Independence area of the team.


The Personal Independence Team is responsible for supporting our partners and client facing professionals to ensure that their personal investments and relationships comply with the firm’s Independence policies and the rules and regulations imposed by external regulatory bodies such as the UK Financial Reporting Council, US Securities and Exchange Commission, The Irish Auditing & Accounting Supervisory Authority and the International Ethics Standards Board for Accountants.


This is a permanent full-time position based in London and prior Independence experience is not essential.


Your Key Responsibilities:


Your day to day role will involve:

  • Providing advice and guidance to Partners and professionals in respect of the Independence aspects related to their personal financial and other relationships
  • Analysing individuals’ financial holdings and relationships to determine if they and EY are independent under the relevant rules
  • Completing Independence checks and general research in respect of potential new clients
  • Working with colleagues in EY’s overseas Global Delivery Services functions, including reviewing the output/quality of work they produce and providing feedback as required
  • Assisting Managers and Senior Managers in managing key processes and assessing the Independence impact of certain financial and other relationships with EY audit clients
  • Assisting with the firm’s annual and quarterly Independence confirmation process
  • Assisting with the firm’s mandatory annual Independence web based learning for staff and partners
  • Providing support to the senior members of the team in respect of internal and external regulatory reviews and inspections
  • Ad hoc support of other parts of the UKI Independence Team
