An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Research Technician to join our team involved in developing analytical methods for new insecticidal materials and examining insecticide metabolism.

As the Research Technician, you will be working with external clients on behalf of LSTM and will be responsible for providing technical assistance in insecticide quantification, metabolism assays and in techniques used to diagnose insecticide resistance. Additionally you will also provide technical support for research programs within the Department of vector Biology.

Key Responsibilities are (but not limited to):

  • Prepare and develop HPLC and potentially other analytical methods for insecticide analysis
  • Develop and manage Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for characterising insecticide content
  • Conduct HPLC and other analytical techniques such as mass spectrometry to quantify insecticide levels
  • Prepare recombinant mosquito proteins for insecticide metabolism assays
  • Collate and assess data using Excel, Prism and statistics software
  • Prepare written data reports and presentation summaries for the Line Manager and funders
  • Provide initial analysis of data and draft sections of reports for funders and external collaborators

To be successful in this role, it is essential that you evidence experience of working with HPLC and maintaining laboratory data and record keeping whilst working within a research laboratory. It is also vital that you demonstrate knowledge of health and safety legislation and procedures and must be able to adapt protocols from published literature.

You will bring strong numeracy and analytical skills to the role, with the ability to collate data and conduct basic data analysis as well as excellent report writing and communication skills required to learn and communicate new research techniques.
