We are Chatten Free School. A brand new, special needs provision in the heart of Essex.
NB: Teaching Assistants will be titled 'Tutor' at Chatten Free School and will have the increased responsibiltities, freedom to innovate and enhanced pay that come with the 'tutor' title.
***The stated salary is the actual take home salary based on working in term time only and 8:30-16:00 and does not yet include the recent goverment pay increase for support staff ***
This is an exciting opportunity to join Chatten in our second year of opening, working hands on with the pupils in a fast-paced teaching assistant role.

You’ll receive considerable specialised training and support in a range of important skills whilst having access to opportunities for professional development within our structure and opportunities to apply to complete real qualifications in relevant fields.More About the Teaching Assistant Role:
Teaching assistants will will work with the class lead/ teacher to help develop pupils, implementing an individualised curriculum. You will prepare resources for class and run pupil programmes and behaviour support plans that are engaging to pupils.
Responsibilities will include:
- Partaking in physically challenging aspects of learning programmes and behaviour support plans
- Collecting and analysing accurate data on both challenging behaviour and skill acquisition
- Setting new targets with the class lead/ teacher
- Updating student records
- Supporting dealing with challenging behaviour
- Supervising pairs or small groups of students encouraging independence, social play with their peers
- Reporting any safeguarding concerns to the safeguarding lead
- Assisting with the physical and self-care needs of the children and young adults
- Forming and maintaining positive and educationally productive relationships with the children and young adults of the school
Who are we?
We are a local authority funded special needs free school in the Witham (Essex) area working with pupils with severe autism and associated learning needs. Many of our pupils are pre-verbal and may display challenging behaviour. Our school is part of the Hope Learning Community (HLC) a fantastic group of SEND schools in Essex.
We believe that through a consistent and individualised curriculum, using effective and evidence-based learning techniques we can ensure that our pupils leave us as independent as possible and with life-long socially significant skills which will enable them to access the world around them in a rich and meaningful way.
