About us
Dyson is a global technology enterprise. We solve the problems others choose to ignore, with surprising new inventions that defy convention and simply work better. We’re growing fast and our ambition is huge – more categories, more locations, and more people.
The Claims and Performance team at Dyson work closely with our Commercial, Research, Design, and Development (RDD), and Legal teams to develop appropriate test methods and capability that support our claims ambitions, using labs within and outside of Dyson. They travel to supervise consumer trials and are involved in novel research with contract and academic partners to evidence new claims, ensuring that Dyson can defend all its performance claims, treading the line between compelling claims that sell products and differentiate us from our competitors, whilst having persuasive, comprehensive data to support advertising. They conceive and execute novel research with contract and academic partners to evidence new claim avenues.
We're committed to our campus culture and don’t look to offer a regular hybrid working arrangement. This helps us to achieve the spirit of Dyson – collaboration, creativity, and inventiveness – in our inspiring, social, and dynamic workspaces.
About the role
In this role, you will be at the forefront of supporting Dyson's ambition in technical marketing claims as a Microbiology Scientist. As part of our Claims, Standards, and Insight team, you will leverage your microbiology science background to tackle the next challenge head-on.
Your primary responsibility will involve overseeing all claims, methods, testing, and evidence for one or more Dyson product categories. By developing expertise in these categories and staying up to date with the latest technologies, you will play a vital role in formulating and executing the claim substantiation strategy for each project. Collaborating closely with the RDD (Research, Design, and Development) team, you will fine-tune product specifications and validate suitable test methods, ensuring that our claims are well-supported.
Representing Dyson at international standards working groups such as ISO, IEC, or ASTM, you will actively participate in shaping industry guidelines and standards. You will formulate and advocate for Dyson's position on various issues, using data generated by the RDD team to qualify our stance. Additionally, you will provide assistance to local markets in navigating advertising law requirements, advising commercial managers on limitations, constraints, and substantiation needs for claims language.
As part of your horizon-scanning role, you will proactively seek opportunities for new endorsement partners, schemes, or Dyson product advocates. Identifying credible partners and structuring schemes, you will negotiate costs and strive to secure exclusivity for Dyson. Furthermore, you will collaborate with local partner organizations to design region-specific research projects that facilitate new product endorsement or support novel claims.
To ensure accurate and reliable testing, you will identify and commission external test houses capable of conducting standard tests and developing bespoke methods for emerging product categories. You will establish efficient working practices, including job tracking and test scheduling, to ensure timely and cost-effective delivery of reports.
Your expertise will be sought after in calls and meetings with external legal counsel, where you will explain the complex details of Dyson technologies, test methods, and comparative data that support our claims. Your input will be invaluable in shaping launch strategies and effectively defending against any challenges that may arise.
Your insights will be pivotal in category cross-team meetings with senior managers, where you will represent the perspective of CSI (Claims, Standards, and Insight). Additionally, you will attend senior management reviews, providing valuable testing and standards insights, while fearlessly challenging opinions and suggestions to ensure the highest quality standards are upheld.
