Job description
We’re looking for enthusiastic, proactive team members to support delivery of work across several regimes within the Waste & Industry Regulatory Services (WIRS) department
WIRS is committed to data excellence; we collate, analyse, and use our technical expertise to interpret data, which informs regulation, enforcement, and legislation.

You will need good organisational and data management skills, with the ability to prioritise your tasks effectively, manage a varied workload and meet appropriate deadlines. You will be providing support to the unit in delivering regulatory activities and providing direction for our area-based teams, under supervision of subject matter experts. The ability to work in teams and provide excellent customer service is key to these roles.

In the role you will

  • Use data and information to help support evidence-based decisions

  • Save and share documentation in line with data protection guidelines.

  • Support your team and the wider unit to identify and implement improvements.

  • Be flexible, enjoy working across different work streams and activities, with different people.

  • Provide excellent service to our internal and external customers

  • Provide fair and consistent regulation to our customers (with guidance from senior colleagues), acting with integrity

Candidates who achieve the required standard at interview will be held on a reserve list for up to 6 months and may be offered future vacancies as they arise.
The team
WIRS is an inclusive and passionate department consisting of experienced and knowledgeable regulatory and technical staff. We work with colleagues across the organisation and a variety of external stakeholders to provide environmental guidance and regulation and ensure priorities are informed by evidence and insight.

Key regimes: Regulatory Waste Returns, Chemical Compliance, Pollution Inventory, Hazardous Waste and Waste Tracking.

Working nationally, our staff are predominantly based Quadrant 2, Sheffield, although some staff work from other locations.
Experience/skills required
You will require good written and verbal communication skills, have the ability to follow written processes and use different digital tools.

Relevant work experience would be an advantage, however being able to demonstrate the following list of skills will be important:

  • Able to work using basic computer applications such as Microsoft excel, word and email
  • Ensure data and information is handled correctly and accurately
  • Be comfortable working in a virtual team environment
  • Deliver work to high quality standards
  • Share learning with team members
  • Work well as part of a team to achieve common goals.

Effective at organisational tasks and a good communicator, you’ll have a strong customer and partner focus. Achieving results and an ability to work at pace are key skills for this role.
Contact and additional information
The jobs will be within Waste Industry and Regulatory Services (WIRS), based with other EA National teams at Sheffield. Some Sheffield office attendance would be required.

We are fully committed to being an inclusive employer and ensuring equal opportunities for everyone. We are striving to make our workforce as diverse as the communities we serve, and hope to attract applications from underrepresented groups, including people from Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic (BAME) backgrounds, people with a disability, and people with gender diverse identities.

We also welcome requests for flexible working patterns for all our vacancies so please clearly include any information regarding your preferred working arrangements on your application.

Interviews will be carried out in April 2023
