Strengths Based Working We are looking for an empathetic person who is able to manage day to day challenges of ward based working and management of a team of staff. We require a flexible approach to working covering, nights and days as part of a rotational rota. Individualised Approach We will be offering a period of supernumerary practise to enable you to learn the key parts to the role. There will be opportunity to identify and facilitate ongoing learning needs.
Quality We will ensure you have the adequate training and skills to perform the following : - You will assist and undertake appropriate Audits ensuring high standards are met and quality care is delivered to our service users. You will lead a team of staff following trust policies, completing PDRs and ensuring staff needs are met allowing them to feel valued and maintaining high care standards. Partnership and Collaborative Working The role of ward sister enables you to work with and across a multiple different disciplines from Primary care and Secondary care. We work closely with our surrounding acute hospital sites, the Intermediate care teams and community colleagues.
With such close working relationships we are able to make sure our local residents have a seamless passage through the care process. Our aim is to facilitate patients wishes and keep good communication with families and carers. Managing Connections and Relationships We aim to deliver a high standard of care to our services users and their support networks. We are proud of the service we deliver and believe we offer good value.
Some areas of challenge are the ongoing pressure of care in the community which does not always support appropriate discharges; however we are always looking for new opinions and an innovative minded person to assist us in this challenge. Service Delivery and Improvement It is well documented and researched that patients thrive better in their own homes and this is where they wish to be. With this focus in mind we are always reviewing our services and what we could change or improve upon. This role will enable you to become part of a successful team of staff who have achieved to reduce hospital bed stays, maintain more people in their own homes whilst we also have the lowest number of residents in Intermediate care beds.
We are always looking at new ways to maintain this service and improve on what we have already achieved. Communication and Working Relationships We are looking for someone with excellent communication skills, who can communicate at all levels to a variety of people in a profession friendly manner. Have a passion for elderly care and working to achieve a positive outcome for those patients. You will need to have some IC training and understand systems that are in place within the NHS.
We are looking a team worker who is able to support others. Planning and Organisation You will need to be organised, calm and able to work under pressure. You will need to be a good decision maker and work closely within an MDT You will have training which will lead to you being able to facilitate the Rota for staff ensuring good skill mix and safety with numbers. Responsibility and Accountability You will be responsible for a team of staff , which will consist of Staff nurses, Assistant Practitioners and HCAs You will be responsible and accountable for ensuring they are up to date with their PDRs and clinical supervision, facilitating them to achieve their goals.
Manage staff sickness and poor performance Manage a ward of 16 patients to ensure a high standard of safe care is delivered at all times. You will be expected to become a supervisor/assessor to student nurses. Policy and Service Responsibility You will work within your code of practice adhering to trust policies You will be expected to learn and have some understanding of the corporate issues within the organisation and support changes and challenges that may occur. We work closely with the CQC and the CCG ensuring standards are maintained and new services are delivered Responsibility for Finance, Equipment and Other Resources You will have an active role with budgetary management and will be expected to attend appropriate meetings.
You will be a signatory for the ward based budget items and time sheets. The appropriate maintenance of equipment and stock managed will be part of a shared role with the other band 6 staff members Responsibility for Supervision, Leadership and Management You will be responsible for supervising junior staff on duty, managing a group of patients, supporting learners and ensuring the smooth running of the ward in the absence of the senior staff. Information Technology and Administrative Duties We are looking for someone with good computer skills who can support others. There will be day to day administration responsibilities such as planning rotas, ensuring shifts are appropriate covered and signing of time sheets.
