ABOUT THE ROLE.
Our growers are facing increasing challenges from climate change and variable weather, rising input costs, and regulatory uncertainty. To face these threats, we partner with our growers to re-imagine the way we grow potatoes with a commitment to implement regen-ag practices across 100% of our potato acreage worldwide by the end of 2030.
But everyone at McCain has a part to play and our Agronomists are no exception!
It’s your job as Regenerative Agriculture Agronomists to manage the yield improvement and research trials, demonstration, and Knowledge Education (KE) program to provide a pipeline of agronomy innovation and drive the adoption of regen ag in the grower base.
Reporting to Head of Agronomy and Applied Research you will deliver global yield improvement targets, and regen ag adoption targets as well as maximise costs for potato agronomic practices.
You will also…
- Formulate a trials and KE strategy to deliver the required innovation pipeline and KE to meet short, medium and long-term goals
- Fully cost and keep to budget the research and KE programs
- To provide a plan of work required by McCain trials team to the Variety Development Agronomist and Agronomy Trials Manager to enable resources to be correctly allocated and prioritised
- Manage the trials program to ensure delivery of the targets set
- Work closely with the Head of Agronomy and Applied Research and SME’s analyse and report on the trials program, and deliver the key messages to the grower base through the KE program
- Work closely with the Head of Agronomy and Applied Research reports on GB and global targets to the wider GB agriculture team and the global agronomy function
- To provide technical support to maintain the pesticide and controlled product database within McCain’s Gxcore grower platform to enable due diligence of field records to be maintained
- Contribute to the overall agronomy strategy as a key member of the team
ABOUT YOU.
It’s a given that you will have experience of potato production either in agronomy, research/ trials or farm management. And as well as a love of potatoes you should also have…
A genuine interest in potato research and regen ag- The understanding of the wider potato industry especially in the context of regen ag
- Experience of trials protocols and statistical analysis
- Track record in communicating to growers and agronomists
- Experience of managing a technical team and achieve targets within time constraints (good time management!)
- Degree BSc (Hons) Agriculture or a biological science. – Essential
- Excellent level of computer literacy in Microsoft Office – Essential
- Full clean driving licence – Essential
You will also have excellent verbal written and communication skills with the ability to communicate and gain credibility and trust with our growers.

Our HQ is based on Scarborough, North Yorkshire!
