Job description

The Department:

The Department of Physiology, Development and Neuroscience (PDN) is a large, friendly Department based on the Downing site in central Cambridge. We are engaged in teaching and research across a wide range of biological sciences - from cell and developmental biology, through cellular and animal physiology to systems neurosciences and human anatomy. We offer a welcoming work environment where you can feel valued, encouraged to develop, and supported to achieve your full potential.

The Role:

As the Department's principal Receptionist, you will deliver a welcoming and efficient front of house service to staff, visitors and students. You will manage enquiries to the Department, assist with some events and catering, and provide general administrative support to a small number of senior staff. This opportunity would suit someone looking to develop their skills in these areas and learn how an academic department operates on a day-to-day basis.

About you:

You will be educated to GCSE standard or equivalent (as a minimum), and have some experience of working within a reception, general office or clerical setting. You will have strong communication and customer-service skills, combined with good organisational, administrative and IT skills (for administrative purposes).

Apply:

Click the 'Apply' button below to register an account with our recruitment system (if you have not already) and apply online.

On the online form, in the suitability for the role section, you should explain the reasons for your application and how your knowledge, skills and experience match the requirements of the role. The full contact details for two professional referees should be provided; please note that we will assume that you are happy for us to approach your referees at any stage, unless you indicate otherwise in the space provided on the form.

If you would to informally discuss this role, please contact Aileen Jordan, Chief Administrator [email protected].

Closing Date: 16 April 2023. We will be reviewing applications for this position regularly. We encourage you to apply as soon as possible as we may call you for an interview, before the closing date. We reserve the right to close the position early if the available post is filled.

Please quote reference PM35668 on your application and in any correspondence about this vacancy.
