As the largest Cellular Pathology department in the country, we’re looking for talented people to join our Paediatric Histopathology Department and work across our diverse teams on our Wythenshawe Hospital and Oxford Road Campus sites, where you’ll have the opportunity to work cross-site, offering exposure to specialist training and experiences.

Across the service there are extensive Immunohistochemistry, Molecular Fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH) and enzymehistochemistry repertoires.

As part of the Greater Manchester Pathology Network and National Pathology Imaging Cooperative Network, the department is also working towards implementing digital imaging to support the Greater Manchester Strategy for Digital Pathology and National Paediatric network, with equipment due to be validated in 2023.

We support and encourage our Biomedical Scientists to undertake Continuing Professional Development (CPD) activities. We also have a dedicated Training Lead, supporting the Directorate strategy for training, as well as training officers within each department and the department has full HCPC training status for pre and post registration IBMS portfolios, and full ISO 15189 accreditation.

You’ll routinely process tissue samples, in line with department protocols ISO 15189 standards.

You’ll work as part of a team of highly dedicated scientific staff to ensure the quality of all tests performed using internal and external quality schemes.

You’ll perform specialist automated and manual tests throughout the department and be involved in auditing processes, reagent control, and maintenance of equipment.

You’ll support in the day-to-day supervision of Medical Laboratory Assistants within the department.

You’ll rotate through all sections of the department and will be supported to become a fully trained and competent member of the team.
