Quality Managers within the SDA are complex and multifaceted roles involving a wide range of responsibilities and priorities. In this post you will play a key independent role in developing and delivering Quality Management and Assurance to ISO 9001 whilst pursuing improvement opportunities. Through the Corporate Services Function you will participate in an extensive training programme with the long-term goal of recognition as a Government Assurance and Improvement (GAI) subject matter expert. Achieving this requires commitment to gaining a MoD Quality Management License followed by successful Chartered professional status through the Chartered Quality Institute (CQI).
As the Quality Manager for the SDA, you will be responsible for delivery of Quality Management Systems to enable the business to meet its strategic objectives.
This will include maintaining ISO9001 certification, acting as the key Subject Matter Expert (SME) interface and focal point for site Quality Management specialists and the Certification body. You will be responsible for driving Improvement and Learning from Experience (LfE) initiatives. You will lead in policy, process, procedure and improvement of business practices across the wider business.
You will bring with you to the role a good understanding of Quality Management Systems (QMS), strong organisational skills, an analytical mindset and approach to dealing with and prioritising a large volume of work, as well as proven strength in policy, process and procedure.
In return, you will be offered guidance and mentorship by the Process Improvement lead, with the opportunity to gain exposure and build on your experience in multiple areas across the SDA.
Please note some attendance to the stated site will be required for this position.
About the role
In this role, you will have the opportunity to:
- Manage the GAI approach and ensuring its effectiveness, providing technical advice and guidance.
- Manage the maintenance of the business processes working with the document Sponsors.
- Manage support to ensure appropriate management reviews are held and any appropriate information is produced, analysed, and presented at meetings.
- Planning and undertaking independent risk based internal assurance quality audits and completing the reports.
- Manage timely stakeholder and customer engagement by arranging meetings and events.
- Manages the capture of Root Causes of non-conformances, analyse and present trend data.
- Manage the maintenance or implementation of the Business Management System including the Configuration Management of control aspects.
- Manage the Implementation or maintenance of ISO 9001 certification.
- Collate, present, and analyse data to present to Senior Management to enable informed decisions.
- Support the improvement to Quality awareness, measuring its effectiveness.
- Support the delivery of Improvement Projects, taking ownership where appropriate.
Person specification
To be successful with your application, you'll need to show that you meet the following essential criteria:
- In-depth Quality management experience developing Quality Management Policy/Systems
- Proven communication skills at peer and senior management level
- Experience of data management and analysis and subsequent determination of improvement opportunities.
- Proficient user of Microsoft 365.
- Qualified to ISO9001 internal audit or willingness to undertake this qualification within first 6 months of employment
It would also be great if you can demonstrate any of the following desirable criteria:
- Chartered Quality Institute (CQI) Chartered Member – held or
achieve within 2 years.
- Aspire to achieve a MOD Quality Management Licence.
- Experience in process improvements and adoption /application of Lean or willingness to learn and develop in this area with training provided.
- Experience using Microsoft Visio.
