Job summary:

The post holder works under direct or indirect supervision of the team leader and undertake tasks and duties delegated by the Nurse, Team Leader or a suitably qualified regulated professional. They will work collaboratively with the team to meet the needs of residents/patients, following all policies and procedures.

Key responsibilities Communication:

· Communicate effectively with other team members.

· Communicate effectively with patients and carers.

· Recognising their needs for alternative methods of communication and respond accordingly.

Main aims of the job:

· To be part of the nursing team, whose aims are to ensure that residents’ nursing, personal and psychological needs are met on a daily basis?

· To help promote as much personal and physical independence and choice as possible in the activities of daily living undertaken by the residents within the Care setting. To help maintain a stimulating and attractive environment for the residents/patients.

Key Responsibilities:

· Maintain Resident/Patient confidentiality at all time.

· Act as a chaperone.

· To assist in the direct care provision of all of the service users, which may include; basic nursing care i.e. washing, dressing and undressing, bed bathing, mouth care, and eye care and checking pressure areas, (which maybe under staff supervision).

· To assist the residents with their toileting needs, including continence promotion.

· To change beds, tidy residents/patients rooms and do light cleaning.

· To empty aids, where appropriate.

· To assist with problems with mobility, including those of mobility aids.

· To help in the serving of meals and drinks, feeding those residents who are unable to feed themselves and ensuring that each resident receives the meal or diet that he/she has requested and is suitable for his/her needs.

· To help with the admission and discharge of residents/patients, including listing of their property/clothing.

· To convey relevant information about the service users to the nurse in charge, in order that the individual plan of care may be regularly updated and appropriate care given, paying particular attention to any changes observed in the service users physical or psychological condition.

· Report immediately to the Nurse in charge, any accident or untoward incident, which may occur to a resident/patients or a member of staff.

· Assist in activities within the Care setting.

· To help to maintain a safe environment for staff, residents and visitors, through awareness of health and safety policies.

· Answer the telephone, take clear messages and contact the Nurse in charge.

· To undertake any other duties as required, in order to keep the Care setting running smoothly, as delegated by the trained Manager/Nursing staff.

General:

· To attend all mandatory training when required.

· To assist with domestic duties in the home including cooking cleaning and laundry when the need arises.

· To communicate effectively with other staff, relatives and visitors including professional agencies regarding residents/patients.

· To be fully aware of the fire policy and the awareness of food hygiene regulations.

· To be familiar with all current policies and procedures and understand your duty to comply and implement them when necessary.

· To wear uniform provided with plain black trousers and flat sensible shoes at all times.

· Ensure that you do not use a mobile telephone while on duty.

· To ensure that all information of a confidential nature gained in the course of duty is not divulged to third parties.

· To keep all records of domestic work completed after each shift in the appropriate book.

· Understand your duty to whistleblowing if you witness bad practice or harm to a resident/patients within the Care setting.

· To promote and ensure the good reputation of the Care Setting at all times.

Health and Safety:

· To ensure that you work in a safe environment in accordance with the Health and Safety at Work Act.

· To assist in the maintenance of a Safe and Healthy Working environment by understanding and ensuring adherence to the Homes’ Health and Safety Policy and Procedures.

· To take responsibility for your own health and safety and that of others who may be affected by your acts or omissions.

· To be fully aware and comply with infection control policies and procedures and appropriate hand hygiene technique.

· To report immediately to the Nurse/Manager in charge, any illness of an infectious nature or accident incurred by a resident, colleague, self or another.

· To report to the Matron, Maintenance man or Nurse in charge of any faults, damaged furniture, faulty appliances, equipment or any potential hazard

· The Home has adopted a NO SMOKING/VAPING policy which applies to all posts within the Home. Smoking/vaping may be carried out in a designated area which can be found on the ground floor.

Qualifications, Training and Experience:

· Basic experience is essential for this role.

· To have a genuine interest for older people.

· To be willing to participate in National Vocational Training Programmes (optional).

· To have good communication skills.

· To have the ability to work effectively within a team environment.

Job Types: Full-time, Part-time, Temporary contract, Zero hours contract
Part-time hours: 40 per week

Salary: £9.51-£12.00 per hour
