Airport Fire Fighter

Are you our next Airport Firefighter?
Gatwick Airport is currently looking to create a pool of qualified candidates for the role of Airport Firefighter to join our Rescue and Firefighting Services (RFFS) Team when positions become available.

What is the role?

Working as part of a close knit and highly motivated team, the airport fire fighters play a pivotal role in ensuring Gatwick has a fully effective Emergency Fire Service. In return, we provide a fantastic training programme to ensure we are constantly developing our people to be the best they can be!

What will you do?

You will form part of our professional Fire and Rescue Service, dealing with emergency situations such as Aircraft emergencies, medical emergencies and other incidents including road traffic collisions, fires, chemical incidents, and special service calls, both on and off the airport.

  • Undertake continuous development to ensure you maintain the required level of technical competence.
  • Build and maintain effective working relationships across the airport and wider community to ensure an effective integrated response to emergency situations.
  • Maintain all equipment for operational readiness.
  • Keep up to date with all relevant regulations to comply with all legal and statutory obligations applicable to this role.
  • Carry out roles that support the stable operation of Gatwick Airport during adverse weather conditions.
  • Comply with all AFS policy and procedures.

Do you have what we're looking for?

  • Hold a current Aviation Rescue Fire Fighting Service (RFFS) certificate of competence or currently working in either the Local Authority or Metropolitan Fire and Rescue Service (Whole time or On-Call) as a competent Firefighter (minimum rank)
  • Candidates who are looking for a long-term career in a fantastic environment
  • A team player
  • Physically fit and able with the ability to meet the required physical and medical standard
  • Dedicated with a flexible and “can do” approach
  • Ability to problem solve and work well under pressure
  • Prepared to push physical and mental boundaries when required
  • A valid full UK Driving Licence
  • A good standard of education particularly in the areas of English and Mathematics (GCSE or equivalent), as you will be required to undertake our literacy, numeracy & verbal reasoning assessments as part of our selection process
