We are looking to recruit & train motivated individuals keen to develop their skills within Specialist Community Public Health Nursing (SCPHN) (Health Visiting) to join the PGDip Specialist Community Public Health Nurse (SCPHN) course in January 2024 at ARU.

A current NMC registrant (or about to qualify) in any branch of nursing or midwifery & meet the academic requirements of the university, 50% of your time being academic study & 50% being practice experience within the Healthy Child Programme Service.
Able to commit to the 52 weeks of the course at the ARU.

Job Purpose:
To Undertake the PGDip Specialist Community Public Health Nurse training (SCPHN) to develop the knowledge and skills required to function safely and effectively as a SCPHN (Health Visitor) and lead practice within the public health agenda through support, education and guidance of the Higher Education Institute and Practice Supervisor, Practice Assessor and Professional Lead.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
1. To attend all educational sessions as directed by the University, submitting assignments promptly as required, to achieve all objectives to the standard required. To develop new skills and knowledge showing integration of theory and practice.
2. To maintain a close liaison with the Practice Assessor throughout the course and to agree a clinical learning programme which will facilitate and support theoretical learning and reflect the value of practice centred education. Personal responsibility to identify and highlight any areas of concerns regarding progress and development (clinically, academically, and personally) before these become problematic.
3. To demonstrate the ability to transfer previous professional knowledge and skills in the development of the Specialist Community Public Health Nursing role.
4. Assess, plan, implement and evaluate individual/family focused programs of care, under the direction of the practice supervisor and assessor and work in partnership with other agencies e.g. support services for families, social care, early years provision/schools etc. Develop record keeping skills and knowledge ensuring records are accurate and contemporaneous.
5. To develop an awareness and involvement in the delivery of the Healthy Child Programme with support and guidance from the Practice Assessor and Practice Supervisor, developing into an autonomous practitioner and taking responsibility for the care given to children / young people / families within own limits of competency and confidence.
6. To be aware of and demonstrate increasing skills and knowledge in assessment and decision making in relation to local safeguarding, looked after children, domestic abuse and vulnerable children’s policies and procedures. To recognise that promoting the welfare and safeguarding of children, young people and vulnerable adults is everyone’s business and access training and supervision as appropriate to the role. Ensure concerns are responded to appropriately in line with local safeguarding policy and interagency safeguarding procedures.
Communication
Establish and maintain relationships and partnerships with families and other professionals in a multi-agency and integrated working environment.
1. Report absence and sickness appropriately and promptly to the University and following your local HCP service processes.
2. Arrange and attend regular clinical supervision with Practice Assessor.
People Management
Maintaining own professional development and requirement to take part in appraisal and KSF process, adhere to all NMC Standards for Conduct, Performance and Ethics.
Clinical and Practice Governance
Observe and maintain strict confidentiality with regards to any patient/family/staff/records and information in line with the requirements of the Data Protection Act.
The postholder is required to participate in relevant emergency preparedness process for their team.
