About the role
Key Purpose of Role
The First Line Manager will support the operational team ensuring all colleagues are motivated, engaged and focussed upon customer service, safety and operational efficiency.
Reporting to the Operations Team Manager the role key accountabilities are:
Key Accountabilities
The management of a variety of Distribution Centre functions including Goods Inwards, Put-away, Picking, Replenishment, and Despatch.- Effective leadership of Team Leaders and warehouse colleagues.
- Motivating staff and driving a culture of continuous improvement,health and safety and service focus
- Ensuring that all tasks are undertaken safely and are completed to schedule by appropriately trained colleagues.
- Contribute to the management of safety on site ensuring all accidents and incidents are reported and acted on accordingly including undertaking accident investigations where necessary
- Supporting the Operations team managers in leading the shift and rotating weekly (or as agreed) on a 6-2, 2-10 basis.
- Comfortable and competent in leading a shift in the absence of the OTM
- Ensuring all stock movements are accurately completed using the NAVISION (WMS) system.
- Reporting as directed on the performance of the various teams within the shift, focussing on meeting agreed targets and goals and taking appropriate corrective action(s)
- Working with the Operation Team Managers to complete labour & demand planning – construction and preparation of daily & weekly rotas/holidays/overtime hours of warehouse colleagues to deliver the warehouse plan

- Support Operations Team Managers to manage absence across the Distribution Centre monitoring absence levels and individual absence patterns
- Chairing first level disciplinary hearings and undertaking disciplinary investigations under the guidance of the People Manager
Essential Skills and Behaviours required:
3 years minimum experience of managing a team of up to 80 warehouse colleagues preferably in a 3PL Retail environment or in-house retail environment.- An understanding of stock flow and movement and all associated Standard Operating Procedures (SOP)
- Problem identification and resolution of operational issues at ‘ground’ level
- Promoting a culture of Safety and Continuous Improvement
- Experience in Navision WMS (warehouse management system) or similar
- Use of hand held terminals, picking, put away and periodic stock counting activities
- Experience of managing teams including setting rotas, holiday planning and identifying performance and conduct issues
- Energetic, motivational and empathetic
- Flexible to varied tasks & shift patterns
- Good understanding of safe working practices within a warehouse environment
