We're the fourth biggest building society in the UK and what makes us a bit different is that we're a mutual organisation. We don't have shareholders, we're owned by our members.
Our colleague say Skipton's a great place to work and you could be one of them, bringing with you new ideas on how we can keep customers at the heart of what we do.
Whatever your background, and whatever your goals, we'll help you take the next step towards a better future.
Job Description:
Job Introduction
At Skipton Building Society we believe at putting customers at the heart of all we do, and we pride ourselves on providing excellent service to our customers.
Do you have an Empathetic Approach?

And have a passion for helping others during difficult times?
Then look no further, we have just the right role available in our Probate & Legal team as a Probate & Legal Specialist. Your role will be to provide support when customers contact us during a difficult time in their lives, such as when they need to register a death, change their name or register a Power of Attorney, and it’s important that we ensure we process these changes correctly as well as treating customers with empathy and sensitivity.
This role in the Probate and Legal team involves supporting those customers in matters relating to the registration of legal documents including death registration, power of attorney, change of name and amendment to trusts.
What You’ll Be Doing
Within this role you will be answering telephone queries from customers with sensitivity and empathy, then actioning any changes to their account as a result of the conversation. Demonstrating great attention to detail, you will take responsibility for the registration of the appropriate legal documents within set timescales, checking all documents to ensure they are accurate and compliant.
You will also work closely with external investment suppliers to notify them of any customer updates when needed.
What You’ll Bring
As you’ll be dealing with potentially vulnerable customers it goes without saying you’ll need to be empathetic, patient and resilient to make sure the customer gets the right outcome. You’ll be able to manage multiple workloads including telephone queries and administration tasks, making sure your work is accurate alongside delivering a great service to our customers.
The ideal candidate would be able to demonstrate:
  • Experience in a customer facing role (phone or face to face)
  • Attention to detail at a high level
  • Able to display empathy when dealing with our customers
  • Written & verbal communication skills
  • The ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • To manage own workloads and meet set deadlines
  • Knowledge of investments and the financial services industry is an advantage
We care about our colleagues. So we treat each other like the complex and diverse individuals we are.
Work here is never one-size-fits-all, it flexes around your strengths and needs,
Everyone is held accountable for achieving our common purpose. The aim is for all of us to do better work, have a better life and enjoy a better balance between the two.
