This is a Hybrid Working role with a requirement to attend our London office every Tuesday. Please note, National travel will also be required (approximately once per month) to deliver face to face training in line with business needs.

Reporting into the Head of Privacy Governance and Culture and working within the Data Protection Office, accountable for delivering a risk-based data protection and awareness and culture programme to all Business Units across the Royal Mail Group (RMG, including subsidiaries and key third parties), enabling the DPO to meet its regulatory obligations to delivery training and awareness raising (Art39).
About the Role
You will define RM’s data culture and change roadmap, working closely with data protection, cyber security, and compliance champions from across the business, to adopt a risk-based approach ensuring sufficient flexibility within the schedule to be proactive and reactive if/when required.
You will design and deliver both mandatory business-wide and targeted Data Protection training to high-risk functions underpinned by our key privacy controls using interactive and innovative learning experiences, for e-learning, phishing simulations, culture assessments and training to high-risk functions. You’ll demonstrate training and awareness effectiveness by defining and tracking key performance metrics, working closely with Privacy Risk and Governance Manager to define and updateKPI and data insights lead in the team, and make recommendations for action that enable senior leaders to take difficult decisions.
You’ll monitor and identify the top human risks to the organisation and the behaviours needed to change to mitigate those risks. Alongside this, you’ll maintain awareness of the current security threat landscape and the importance of horizon scanning for future changes and developments in relation to data legislation, creating relevant content to educate impacted users.
You will define and embed a coaching and remediation framework (consequence management) to further support colleagues within a ‘safe space’ and champion positive behaviours through recognition. You’ll also line manage a Privacy Analyst, completing one-to-ones, mentoring, and setting quarterly targets.
About you
To truly excel in this role, you’ll possess, and be able to evidence, the skills and experience listed below:
- Prior experience in being accountable for delivering a data protection and security awareness program across a large and complex enterprise
- Experience of implementing awareness and education through multi-platform internal communications channels (e.g. corporate intranet, newsletters, videos, blogs, email announcements, webcasts)
- An in-depth understanding of privacy regulations such as UK GDPR, CIPP/E or CIPM is desirable
- Detail-oriented; outstanding project management and interpersonal skills in a fast-paced environment; Project Management and/or Change Management qualifications desirable
- Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills with the ability to influence and adapt approach at all levels
- Able to readily adapt the training and awareness agenda to support Business strategy and privacy risk reduction
- Commercially savvy with the ability to appropriately balance data protection and security awareness needs with business impact and benefit
- Ability to perform in high performance environments, prioritize workflows, meet targets, and call out when appropriate
