As a Principal Software Engineering Manager, your engineering leadership experience will position you effectively to manage a number of teams who design and deliver solutions using modern software engineering practices and cloud technologies. Responsibilities

This is a hands-on management and customer facing leadership role where your focus on coaching and continuous improvement in capability will be fundamental to you and your team’s success.

Some of your key responsibilities will include:

  • Leading and mentoring 3-4 software engineering leads and their development teams.
  • Providing thoughtful feedback, nurturing an inclusive environment, championing engineering fundamentals, and providing mentorship for team members to grow
  • Modelling Microsoft’s core values of respect, integrity, and accountability to leads and engineers across your team.
  • Coaching and guiding your leads to ensure that we successfully deliver projects with our customers. Ensure great architectural decisions and engineering practices.
  • Hands-on technical leadership with your team and our customers, the broader ISE organisation, Microsoft product teams, and the open-source community.
  • Partnering with technical program management and other teams to successfully nurture, plan, prioritise and deliver engagements that build trust and expand Azure expertise with our customers.
  • Working with other managers across our team to continuously improve our engineering process and our technical capabilities.
  • Continuously building your technical knowledge and improving our ability to deliver quality solutions by evolving our engineering process and technical capabilities.

Qualifications

  • Extensive experience shipping or running production systems and/or software, including complex production systems that run on public cloud
  • A history of having managed software engineering teams or technical lead experience.
  • Clear design and coding skills with a bias for architecture at scale, grounded in engineering fundamentals
  • Regular interaction with customers, both internal and external, and at all levels within an organisation
  • Understanding of cloud computing and experience working with cloud architecture. Microsoft Azure expertise preferred but AWS, or similar cloud computing platforms will be considered.
  • Experience and skills with Azure Data and AI services or equivalent
  • Prior experience in Government and Defence or related industries (Preferable).
  • This role requires you to be eligible for, and willing to be, UK Security Vetted to level 2 (Security Check (SC))
