Key Information

Salary: Dependent on relevant Postdoctoral experience. Future progression is based on annual performance review. If the candidate has not yet been awarded their PhD, the starting salary will be at £34,344 until the successful completion of their viva.

Job Details

The Division of Clinical Studies has a vacancy for a post-doctoral research fellow, to work in our Cancer Biomarker team under the leadership of Professor Johann de Bono. The programme aims to use circulating tumour cells & plasma nucleic acids to develop biomarkers for patient selection, evaluating response to novel agents and identifying mechanisms of resistance in castration-resistant prostate cancer.

Key Requirements

The successful candidate must have experience in molecular & cellular biology techniques and experience in developing sequencing assays. Familiarity with contemporary approaches to target validation and drug discovery are desirable.

The ICR has a workforce agreement stating that Postdoctoral Training Fellows can only be employed for up to 7 years as PDTF at the ICR, providing total postdoctoral experience (including previous employment at this level elsewhere) does not exceed 10 years


Department/Directorate Information:

Within the Institute of Cancer Research, the Divisions of Clinical Studies and Cancer Therapeutics play a key role in developing new drugs for treating cancer. It comprises both clinical and laboratory staff, covering a range of interests and tumour types. All the clinical and laboratory facilities are based in the Sutton branch of The Institute and Royal Marsden Hospital, and there is a special responsibility for the Drug Development Unit.

Professor Johann de Bono’s team conducts biomarker-driven clinical and translational research to accelerate the development of novel cancer therapies and improve understanding of cancer biology, drug sensitivity and resistance. His team focuses on improving prostate cancer care that have led pivotal phase III trials of several prostate cancer drugs including abiraterone, cabazitaxel, enzalutamide and olaparib as well more recently ipatasertib and lutetium-PSMA. His team consists of basic and clinical scientists, which is embedded in a vibrant world-class research environment.
