Job Purpose
Reporting to the Senior Policy & Advocacy Adviser, you'll be responsible for playing a critical role in building relationships with key audiences, helping to raise awareness of Save the Children's work, and developing and delivering influencing strategies to influence government policy in Northern Ireland and elsewhere.
You'll be based in Northern Ireland, working with the Northern Ireland Squad, and with colleagues across Save the Children to transform children's lives.
Main Accountabilities
The Policy & Public Affairs Adviser's key duties will be to:
- Build and maintain relationships with key political and policy audiences in order to raise Save the Children's profile and awareness of the issues that we work on
- Develop and deliver influencing strategies, collaborating with colleagues to ensure programme and policy are integrated, and leading engagement with key political and policy audiences
- Establish and maintain effective systems for tracking political and policy engagement, including mechanisms for monitoring and evaluating activity
- Design ambitious and credible policy proposals, based on evidence, research, policy and political landscape, and engagement with children, families and stakeholders
- Develop and deliver written and oral reports and briefings for different audiences, including politicians, officials, and other decision makers
- Provide political and policy advice to inform Save the Children's strategies and advise colleagues
- Support colleagues to work with children and families and ensure children and families' views and experiences are at the heart of our work.

Person Profile
Technical Skills:
- Experience of developing and delivering public affairs strategies to influence structures, processes, and trends in political systems
- Experience of using evidence from a range of sources to analyse policy challenges and develop creative, credible policy solutions
- Experience of developing effective working relationships with colleagues and working collaboratively in multi-disciplinary project teams
- Track record of building a strong network of relationships with external stakeholders such as politicians, funders, or government officials
- Excellent writing and presentational skills, including the ability to communicate coherent arguments and complex policy analysis in a compelling way to external audiences
- Experience of developing and managing projects to strict deadlines
Personal Skills:
- A strong team player with an empowering and collaborative working style and excellent interpersonal skills
- Solutions-focused with a creative, problem-solving approach
- Strong verbal communication skills, including the ability to communicate complex evidence and policy points to non-specialists
- Able to manage multiple activities at once and to resolve conflicting priorities
- A flexible approach that enable you to both lead projects and deliver activities for projects led by others
- Positive, resilient and committed to improving the lives of young children and families
- Ability to travel within the UK, including some overnight stays

Ways of Working:
Remote First – The majority of our roles can be performed remotely, however you may work from the office as often as you wish. Whilst you will be predominantly working from home, we may at times require you to come to your contracted office (up to 2-4 days per month or 6-8 days per quarter).
Note: This will be agreed with your Line Manager and team. This is intended to be time spent on collaborating with colleagues and relationship building.

Jobs are positioned within the salary structure on the basis of evaluation. New employees would normally be appointed at the bottom of the grade, however the appointed salary may also take into account the relevant experience a candidate brings to a role.
