Job description
We are looking for an enthusiastic, well-motivated individual to join our Phlebotomy Team at Bradford Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. The team work across Trust sites, mainly at Bradford Royal Infirmary and St Luke’s Hospital, and you will be expected to rotate across our areas to perform the phlebotomy role in both inpatient and outpatient settings, with both Adults and Children.
You will be responsible for the taking and handling of good quality blood samples from patients following set procedures and protocols. All training will be provided as part of the onboarding and training period.
We are looking for someone who is an excellent team player, can remain calm under pressure, is a good communicator with basic IT skills, and can work well with minimal supervision in a professional and responsible manner. Good manual dexterity is essential, as well as the ability to work quickly, safely, and with attention to detail.

- To collect blood samples from patients as requested by GP’s and medical and nursing staff. During all contacts with the patients the jobholder is required to act in a caring and sensitive manner and make the patient his/her first priority taking account of their needs.
- To ensure that all working practices conform to the department’s Health & Safety Guidelines, Trust’s Infection Control Standards and Standard Operating Procedures.
- To maintain high standards of professional behaviour
- To keep record of own attendance on daily basis and to communicate any form of absence according to department’s absence reporting procedure.
- To undertake all required mandatory training required for the post
- Undertake other duties and responsibilities as may be necessary due to change of practice within the Department from time to time, commensurate with grade for this post, and under the supervision of the Phlebotomy Services Co-ordinator
- The job description will be reviewed periodically as part of the performance appraisal system and may be subject to change with the agreement of the post holder and Phlebotomy Service managers
