Female Support Worker

£11.17 per hour
About me
I am a friendly and positive minded 35-year-old woman with Cerebral Palsy. I have recently married and live with my husband and our friendly dog and cat. I am good company, have a good sense of humour and I enjoy socialising, fitness where possible and relaxing. I have a degree in film editing and also spend time on my PC editing and making videos. Being as independent as possible is very important to me. I use a powered wheelchair both in my home and outdoors.
Hours and Rate of Pay:
£11.17 per hour.
Location: St Ives PE27.
Enhanced DBS check is essential.
Post includes, paid annual leave for time worked.
12-16 hours per week, on a Wednesday, and every other weekend (Saturday or Sunday).
Main Duties:
Working as part of a team, supporting me with all aspects of personal care. Prepare healthy meals as required and help feed me, when needed. Support with everyday tasks such as shopping, laundry, keeping on top of the housework, collecting medication and minimal help to look after my pets. For example, cleaning the litter tray and food bowls. I currently employ a dog walker. Someone to drive me to medical appointments and to social outings, volunteering etc. I have a wheelchair accessible vehicle. Flexibility is essential as each day’s tasks could be different.
Person Specification:
This post is open only to people who identify as female due to the personal care element of the job and is a genuine occupational requirement. This is in accordance with the Equality Act 2010, Part 1, Schedule 9. I have a Motability vehicle; you should have a full and checkable driving licence to be able to drive it. I’m looking for someone who has experience with supporting people in their homes. I need someone who is flexible and can adapt to my daily routine if necessary. I would like someone who is a good communicator, a fast learner and motivated and can use their initiative. I like to build a positive working environment and to be able to openly discuss work related issues as they occur. I’m looking for someone who can prepare healthy food. It is important to me that a support worker is able to use their own initiative and can keep busy and be proactive if they see that a job needs doing. A good and cheerful sense of humour is also very important. Also being trustworthy and reliable are essential. It is important to be able to distinguish between being a friend and also being my employee. I also need my support worker to respect my privacy and allow me to have some ‘me’ time or just time alone with my husband.
