Working Hours: 37 hours per week
This post will be working in Castle Park and at other Parks and Open Spaces in Colchester.
This is an exciting opportunity to join a well-established team responsible for managing Colchester’s award-winning Castle Park and associated open spaces. This role will be exceptionally active and will need an individual keen on improving the quality of the environment for our residents and visitors.
Experience of working in a land management discipline will be an advantage, as will experience of previously working with volunteers and community groups. This is largely an outdoor role, and the successful applicant will be required to regularly work at weekends and attend meetings out of hours as part of a rota system with other Park Rangers. Start and finish times to the working day are seasonally adjusted subject to Park closing times, with occasional work in the evenings a requirement in spring and summer.
This is an incredibly rewarding and active role that will see you be involved in variety of work including:
- Developing and delivering programmes of works, such as writing of management plans and planting schemes that promote biodiversity and wellbeing in Castle Park and other blue and green assets
- Promoting parks and open spaces as a recreational and educational resource
- Developing and delivering a programme of workshops, guided walks and activities for visitors
- Being a point of contact for enquiries and providing information, advice and interpretation to Park visitors
- Providing support to the events team in the set up and break down of events
- Carrying out health and safety inspections and patrols of Castle Park and other open spaces in Colchester
- Undertaking site work including locking and unlocking facilities, litter picking, maintenance tasks and repairs
- Supervision of contractors undertaking repairs to ensure safe practices and high standards of work
You will need to be able to work on your own initiative as we need someone with a ‘See it, Solve it’ attitude who is able to spot what needs to be done and gets on with it.
One permanent contract available with the following work pattern;
37 hours per week - To work a 2-week rota with alternate weekends and Thursday/Fridays off, worked across:
Week 1: Mon, Tue, Weds, Thurs, Fri,
Week 2: Mon, Tue, Weds, Sat, Sun
