An exciting
opportunity has arisen to join our Legal and Democratic Services team
supporting our fee earners with regard to a wide range of legal matters on
behalf of North Yorkshire Council. We have vacancies for a permanent
Paralegal Officer.

We are looking for Paralegal Officer(s) to join our team who are based at the
County Hall offices in Northallerton but there is also scope to work remotely
from home for some of the time in line with our corporate Hybrid working policy.

We work on a portfolio basis, supporting the whole of the legal team and
looking after a particular specialism. In this instance, we are
looking for someone interested in a permanent position who can provide support
to the fee earners on a variety of different matters such as child protection
matters including care proceedings, pre proceedings cases, adoption and
promoting the disclosure protocol for linked care and criminal
proceedings.

Whilst it is preferable for applicants to have some knowledge or experience
working in a legal environment, it is not essential to have a legal
qualification, as this role is to provide support to the lawyers and not
actually give legal advice. It is more important to have the ability to;
prioritise and meet deadlines, have good organisational and people skills, pay
attention to detail, be meticulous, be prepared to be flexible and have a ‘can
do’ attitude!

If you will enjoy working in a busy but rewarding environment,
where you will be trained and gain experience to support the whole range of
legal work carried out by North Yorkshire Council over the course of
time, we would love to hear from you. The starting salary for this
role is £21,968 (Grade E). However, this
role also has a criterion to meet a higher career band and progression to the
higher level, salary starting from £24,948 which will be dependent on you
having proved your ability and gained experience supporting across the whole
range of legal work we carry out as part of the generic paralegal support
team. You will benefit from a supportive management system and on-going
personal development and performance management.

The Legal Service is part of Legal and Democratic Services (‘LDS’) within the
Chief Executive’s Group. NYC provides a range of services to the County of
North Yorkshire, and the role of the Legal Service is to support the provision
by providing a comprehensive and efficient legal service to the Directorates,
the Council’s Executive, full Council, Committees and Members, and external
clients.

As an organisation we strongly believe in promoting a work life balance, with
flexible working opportunities and modern technology you will be able to
deliver your role to suit both your personal and our business needs. In return
for your hard work and dedication to our service, we can offer you the chance
to be part of a strong and supportive team. You will benefit from a variety of
competitive employee rewards such as generous leave entitlement and local
government pension scheme. We also offer exceptional company benefits such as
salary sacrifice schemes in technology, professional qualifications, and green
car schemes as well as discounted retail offers, health schemes to name but a
few. More information is found in our Total Rewards Brochure.

If you believe you are what we are looking for, we would like to hear
from you. For an informal discussion and more information, please call
Jackie Dawson, Assistant Practice Manager on 01609 533103 or email
