Job Summary

The Packaging Engineer will lead the identification, development and commercialization of new, improved, and cost-reduced packaging while supporting the cross-functional project tasks. The Packaging Engineer will act as a key packaging resource for the organization.

Essential Job Functions

• Leads technical packaging aspects of New Product Development along with projects designed to improve plant efficiency, package component quality and decrease overall cost of goods.
• Drives confirmation of industry and customer specific package testing protocols and procedures.
• Generate, develop and execute packaging ideas by leveraging both existing equipment and partnering with engineering on new equipment.
• Implements and maintains package specification content, creation and validation for all new and existing package components.
• Develop a strategy and grow our in-house testing capabilities.
• Required to communicate cross-functionally within NPD in addition to communicating with corporate functions such as Operations, Quality, Sales and Customer Service
• Experience/expertise in flexible, rigid, carton and/or corrugated type of materials.
• Establishes reasonable project design, development, and testing schedule from concept to production.
• Prepares preliminary models / sketches / schematic diagrams to convey the understanding and solution of engineering issues.
• Fosters strong relationships with customers and vendors.
• Assesses field problems, recommends and drives resolutions.
• Coordinates multiple projects simultaneously.

• Bachelor Degree in Packaging, Engineering or related field.
• Proven track record successfully implementing packaging solutions and managing packaging development projects
• Experience with packaging standards and testing
• Strong ability to collaborate and maintain cross-functional partnerships.
• Strong analytical and logical problem-solving abilities.
• Developing troubleshooting skills with ability to think on their feet.
• Superior technical knowledge / mechanical aptitude demonstrated through academic performance and broad practical experience.
• Demonstrated ability to implement change in a way that positively impacts overall department and company performance.
• Experience with LEAN principles and implementation methods
• Proficiency in the use of MS office applications and Auto CAD.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
