We are looking for a competent, calm, compassionate colleague to oversee the day-to-day delivery across all programme streams by working with our team to ensure that each project is given the correct amount of focus relative to its value to the Trust and catchment. This an exciting chance to use your skills, experience and passion to help us carry out critical work by focusing on supporting the experts that can make a difference for the catchment and its inhabitants. You will join a dynamic team working through the extensive Tyne Catchment Partnership and sub-Catchment groups to achieve meaningful practical work to improve water quality and habitat along hundreds of kilometres of river with major environmental, social and economic benefits.

Job Title Operations Manager
Job Location TRT maintains an office at Shawwell Business Centre, Corbridge, NE45 5PE.
Role can be based partially from home following a flexible working policy.
Field visits in all weather conditions will be essential.
Salary band Up to £40k depending on experience
Plus benefits package including 9% contributory pension
Hours FTE. 37.5 hours per week.

Job purpose To oversee the day-to-day delivery of all projects and client services across the broad range of Tyne Rivers Trust (and River Catchment Services) activity
- To work with colleagues to ensure that each project is given the correct amount of focus relative to its value to the Trust; in terms of both prestige and financial contribution
- To maintain sufficient understanding of all TRT activity to the extent that, in an emergency, due to illness or unforeseen circumstances, it should be possible to step in and maintain workflow until normal delivery is resumed.
- To act as a second senior manager in the absence of either the CEO or the Deputy CEO.
- To communicate with media agencies and other external bodies requiring access to information and other resources from TRT and also oversee delivery of online profile-raising activity.
BACKGROUND
The creation of this role is in response to the recent increased workload and expansion of TRT.
Context
The role involves supporting colleagues and management:
To help ensure that staff have on a daily basis a clear understanding of the work that is required of them and are fully equipped and resourced to meet the challenges of their work in a timely manner.
To help create a sensible balance between what is required and what is achievable.
To help ensure continuity of progress across any TRT activity in the absence of the person tasked with it should illness or other difficulties occur leading to staff absence.

Key Responsibilities
Programme Management
- Day to day management of the operations team. Including work allocation (via line managers), regular support and direct supervision.
- Lead the development and management of the operations team annual budget, working closely with the Finance Manager.
- Ensure team members adhere to TRT information management procedures to aid internal communication, grant reporting and data management on the Tyne Catchment.
- To support the team in maintaining and developing their relationships with project contractors and partners.
Organisational
- Work closely with senior staff to integrate TRTs programmes of work across conservation, education and engagement
- Contribute to the continual improvement of TRTs policies, procedures and ways of working across the organisation
- Work closely with the Communications Officer to ensure promotion of projects through all communications channels. Ensure communications resource is budgeted in new proposals.
Technical Support and Delivery
- Provide technical advice/expertise in one or more of TRTs programme areas: conservation, prosperity, safety, education, wellbeing.
- Understand the multi-disciplinary requirements to deliver holistic projects across catchments (Catchment-Based Approach) and advocate for it internally and externally.
- Support the operations team in direct delivery/management of catchment-scale projects, in working with contractors and managing partnership relationships.
General Management / Administration
- Produce regular reports for trustees and FARC on project delivery and projections.
- To advise senior management as to the viability of timeframes for resourcing and undertaking new projects or other TRT activities.
- To generally support all TRT staff in their objectives for themselves their careers and offer pastoral support.
Other Duties
- Play a key role in helping to deliver the Trust’s ambition.
- Lead by example in prioritising health and safety and wellbeing by taking responsibility for yourself, participants, volunteers and colleagues. This includes abiding by Tyne Rivers Trust’s Health and Safety and Safeguarding policies and defined standards of behaviour at all times.
- Carry out other duties and tasks from time to time for the efficient operation of the Trust.
Detailed Objectives
Personal objectives will be set through the annual appraisal process with the line manager, with objectives reviewed and updated in writing. These will include any other duties and responsibilities as directed by the CEO from time to time, provided they are broadly similar to duties normally performed by post holder or other post holders engaged in similar work.
Shared objectives, necessary to contribute to the business development and current priorities for TRT will also be set.
Training and Development
TRT is committed to continual personal and professional development. A training and development plan will be agreed through the annual appraisal process. The post holder will be supported through and expected to achieve accredited qualification as well as learning through peers and networks.
