Job description

McLaughlin & Harvey are one of the leading Building and Civil Engineering Contractors operating throughout the UK and Ireland.

We are seeking to recruit an experienced Operations Manager to join the team.

Reporting to the appropriate Operations Director, an Operations Manager is responsible primarily for managing all site based activities to ensure projects are delivered safely, on time, to the required standard and to the complete satisfaction of the Client.

Must be a strong leader and presenter with the ability to influence, manage, create and maintain relationships.

  • Ensure our health, safety, environment and quality standards, operating processes, company policies and all legislative requirements are understood, implemented and adhered to throughout the team at all times.
  • Lead and manage the operational team, ensuring it is adequately resourced, led and managed to achieve company targets and maintain high levels of commitment and morale.
  • Develop and maintain close relationships with clients, consultants and subcontractors to anticipate or identify any issues and resolve them. Continuously improve client experience and obtain information to improve our company and obtain repeat and negotiated business.
  • Maintain regular review of the performance of the team, and prepare comprehensive business reports (or assist this activity, as applicable) for the Operations Review Meetings and for the board.
  • Undertake regular site visits and attend monthly CVR project reviews to review progress and financial performance and ensure that project teams receive adequate challenge, support and guidance.
  • Ensure that any live projects with significant delivery risk are escalated to the Construction Director and an action plan is agreed, implemented and monitored to protect the company’s position.
  • Monitor all significant project issues and correspondence to ensure that all necessary contractual processes have been observed, notices issued, records kept and documents stored by the team to protect the company’s position.
  • Where appropriate, assist with business development activities with the Head of Business Development and manage bid or negotiation process to win new business.
  • Ensure the use of company preferred subcontractors and suppliers to improve Health Safety Quality Environmental and project delivery standards and to achieve cost savings against tender allowances.
  • Support the development of the company’s culture through effective team and company communication and role modelling of the company’s vision, values and behaviours.
  • As a senior manager in the organisation contribute to company strategic planning and decision making and to the overseeing of the company’s overall performance
