We have an opportunity to support the National Monitoring – Monitoring Laboratories as an Operational Support Officer at Starcross in the Operational support team. We’re seeking a passionate and motivated individual to successfully manage the day-to-day operation of sample registration, bottle dispatch and general analytical support. You will also be required to take a lead role in the wider operational support team to improve the wellbeing, operational and environmental performance of the Monitoring Laboratories site at Starcross. Influencing and working collaboratively with internal and external partners, and internal teams will be key, as well as ensuring a strong focus on health, safety and wellbeing, performance, quality and delivery. As an Operational Support Officer, you will be expected to deliver a wide-ranging workload to specific timescales. This role is extremely varied and draws upon a diverse range of transferrable skills. Working closely with the Operational Support Team Leaders and other members of the team. You will need to show excellent organisational skills and sound decision to help maintain site accreditation to ISOIEC17025, ISOIEC14001 and ISOIEC9001. You will be required to directly supervise a team to achieve generic targets.

You will be part of the Operational support team based at Starcross. The team consists of 18 people of varying grades, working across the whole site. The team handle environmental water samples at all stages of their life cycle and supports the analytical sections.

You will need a minimum of 5 GCSEs at grades 4-9 including English, Maths and Science. Ideally you will have proven experience or understanding of working in a laboratory accredited to ISOIEC17025, ISOIEC14001 and ISOIEC9001. You will be able to demonstrate an understanding of analytic support functions to a busy working laboratory. You must enjoy working in a busy team environment, often under pressure to achieve results. You must have an excellent knowledge of a quality management system with the proven ability to apply this knowledge to deliver continuous improvements to the services provided to support the Laboratory and internal and external customers. You will need to demonstrate the key capabilities; works in team, develops people, delivers results though others , takes decisions and solves problems and communication.
There is the opportunity to work towards becoming a Registered Technician with the Institute of Science and Technology.

The role is based on a 37-hour week.
