About the role

As the Online Visual Merchandiser your role is to ensure that all products that appear on the Pets at Home website have accurate and engaging content and imagery. This role ensures we create a fantastic online experience for our customers to maximise conversion and sales.


Key Responsibilities

  • Manage our product pipeline to ensure we know when products are due to launch.
  • Building product titles in line with Pets at Home guidelines, optimised for product lister pages, on site search engine and off-site search engine SEO.
  • Creating key features and benefits for each product, ensuring the customer can understand what the product delivers at a glance.
  • Reworking all raw product data gathered by the Online Visual Merchandising Assistant in to clear and compelling Long Descriptions, written using the Pets at Home tone of voice and fully optimised for SEO.
  • Ensuring that all product page content is delivered to best practice user experience standards, in line with the Pets at Home brand guidelines and according to the Pets at Home merchandising principles.
  • Ensuring all new products and product reloads launch on site in line with our range review timings, and to the appropriate standard according to our Good / Better / Best guidelines.
  • Benchmarking other online retailers (direct and indirect competitors, and also similar markets) to identify new and emerging online merchandising trends in terms of product page presentation and data types, in order formulate and agree opportunities for continuous improvement within our data and how we display it to the customer.
  • Briefing all image requirements for any own brand products to our in-house studio, ensuring that all features and benefits of the product are captured, and the quality and detail of our own brand ranges is clearly showcased.
  • Liaising with key stakeholders, such channel managers and execs, to ensure all business requirements for key campaign launches are captured and incorporated in to the brief.
  • Ensure that all imagery meets the requirements of the Pets at Home Image Guidelines.
  • Ensuring accurate categorisation of all new lines and product reloads in order to ensure customers can navigate to and search for them easily.
  • Working with our agency to optimise all site search key words.
  • Benchmarking other online retailers (direct and indirect competitors, and also similar markets) in order to formulate and agree the correct filter types for each department within our left hand navigation, and defining clear and appropriate filter options.
  • Use On-Site Search / Merchandising tool to review category and search opportunities in order to optimise conversion opportunities.


About your experience

  • You’ll be a creative. Someone who has a background of taking detailed product information and using this to create succinct and engaging content. Copy writing experience and a high level of attention to detail will be key to success in this role.
  • Our online environment is fast paced so you’ll have a background of working in a similar role in a fast-moving retailer. You’ll be able to spot commercial opportunities and prioritise your workload to deliver the most impactful results.
  • This role will require great analytical skills and will need you to report on consumer behaviour and user interaction, using this data to make recommendations to increase traffic, conversion and revenue.
  • We need someone who is creative, can spot commercial opportunities and react quickly to deliver results.
  • Excel skills are a must to be able to interpret, manipulate and showcase detailed data.
  • You will be able to demonstrate the ability to communicate effectively, both within and outside of the organisation.
  • You will be keen to learn from others and engage help from across the business which will enable you to both develop yourself as well as the role.


Further key experience required for this role includes:


  • Online Merchandising experience
  • Understanding of GA360, ContentSquare and On-Site Search / Merchandising tools would be beneficial, but training can be given
