The Opportunity
Atura Power is seeking a business-minded, results-oriented lawyer to join its Legal Department as Legal Counsel.
Reporting to the General Counsel, the Legal Counsel is responsible for providing practical, effective advice to assist in managing legal and related risks in support of Atura Power’s projects and operations. This diverse opportunity will provide excellent exposure to all areas of Atura Power’s business at a time when we continue to grow and develop exciting new projects. You will serve as a direct point of contact for business colleagues on a broad range of legal topics.
This role is based in our Oakville head office and includes the ability to work remotely 2 days per week.
This role is ideal for someone who wishes to further their career in a wide array of legal matters. As Atura has a small in house counsel team, you will be involved in a host of matters facing a complex and growing organization and will act as an advisor to our business teams providing expert guidance and partnership as we engage in a number of initiatives aimed to support energy transition.
Your Responsibilities:
On a given day, you can expect to grow and develop by doing the following as Legal Counsel at Atura Power:
- Providing high-quality and timely legal advice on corporate/commercial matters while gaining an in-depth understanding of Atura Power’s business, organization, and objectives
- Developing effective relationships with internal stakeholders at all levels of the organization
- Working both independently, including to identify, research, and resolve legal issues, and by participating in cross-functional teams engaged in major projects, strategic business initiatives, procurements, and other similar activities
- Drafting, reviewing, and negotiating various legal agreements, including related to engineered equipment, construction-related services, real estate and environmental/regulatory topics
- Supporting the contract management function as well as procurement activities in support of Atura Power’s operations
- Providing litigation/dispute resolution matter management and interacting with outside counsel
- Developing and implementing legal operations tools, processes, and resources
- Providing training to business partners on legal matters and developments
Your Experience and Qualifications
You are a good fit for this role if you have:
- 2-3 years of experience in corporate/commercial law, including in relation to public procurement processes and infrastructure projects
- A law degree (LLB/JD) and are a member in good standing with the Law Society of Ontario
- Experience in reviewing, drafting, and negotiating contracts and supporting pre-litigation commercial dispute resolution processes
- Strong business acumen, and an ability to make decisions on a commercial basis
- The ability to work in a fast-paced, changing environment and effectively manage multiple projects
- Strong communication skills and the capacity to build relationships
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Interest in proactively pursuing new challenges and opportunities within our organization
