The Lakeside Occupational Therapy (OT) Service in Hounslow, has an exciting opportunity to recruit a Band 3 Occupational Therapy Assistant (OTA). As a well-established OT Service, we provide OT assessment and treatment for mental health service users who require admission to an inpatient unit. The team provides OT across five wards through an extensive group programme and 1:1 sessions for service user. The successful applicant will work alongside the OT team to support service users’ recovery through meaningful occupation and support their return back to their local community.

To work under the overall supervision of a qualified Occupational Therapist to provide a client-centred Occupational Therapy service to a defined caseload of service users with complex needs.
To support the Occupational Therapist in the implementation of intervention plans aimed at helping service users to maintain and regain independence in functional abilities and promoting service users’ safety through the participation in everyday occupation. Under the supervision of the responsible Occupational Therapist, deliver the individual or group interventions in line with Occupation Therapy care plans.
To undertake tasks in support of Occupational Therapy staff as requested. To use communication, reasoning and negotiation skills to establish a therapeutic relationship, and manage potential barriers to communication.

Main Duties and Responsibilities
Clinical:
- Under the supervision of the responsible Occupational Therapist, deliver the individual or group interventions in line with Occupation Therapy care plans.
- To undertake tasks in support of Occupational Therapy staff as requested.
- To use communication, reasoning and negotiation skills to establish a therapeutic relationship, and manage potential barriers to communication.
- To use a holistic approach to intervention, recognising service users’ mental health, physical health, social and cultural needs and how these needs relate to and impact upon each other.
- Under supervision identify and select, with the service user, appropriate intervention options which balance the interaction of risk, safety, user choice and independence.
- To seek supervision from a Senior Occupational Therapist or Lead Occupational Therapist to inform analysis and reasoning, when more complex needs became apparent.
- To maintain accurate and up to date documentation consistent with legal and organisational requirements.
