Job description
We have an exciting opportunity available for a Night Kennel Assistant to join our Vets at Night Team. Our kennel assistant team are at the hub of the hospital helping to care for unwell patients who either need close monitoring and care on any of our seven wards. The hospital ward team care for both primary and referral patients from simple to complex cases so there are a variety of patient needs to accommodate. They come in all shapes, sizes and temperaments, so every night is different to the previous on. The team currently consists of a Vet, 4 Nurses, 2 Kennel Assistants and one intern. We also have students on rotation from the University of Nottingham.
The night team is friendly, supportive and passionate about providing the highest standard of care to our in-patients. We are always expanding our knowledge and learning new skills as training is important to us as a practice. Supporting our nursing colleagues, you will also interact with referral, first opinion vets, interns and residents.
The working hours will be 7 nights (Monday to Sunday) covering 6pm to 8am on a one week on, two weeks off basis. You will be in the same team every time, so you really get the opportunity to bond as a cohesive force. You will be directly responsible for maintaining a high level of cleanliness within the ward environment, such as cleaning kennels, exercising patients, washing bowls, laundry, stock maintenance, animal handling, basic care including TPR (temperature, pulse and respiration checks), grooming, feeding and assisting the veterinary team, this is an active role.
This role would suit a confident person able to effectively prioritise and manage their own workload as there may be times through the night where you are working independently. We have been tasked to ensure the safety and comfort of all the animals in our care and we need to do that to the highest possible level, so having some similar animal experience would be a true asset
Applicant requirements
- Animal care/ handling experience essential
- Animal care qualifications desirable but not essential (Training will be provided)
- Good communication skills
- Good organisational skills
- Must be proactive and have good time management skills.
