About The Apprentice Butcher Role
We are looking to recruit keen, enthusiastic individuals to join our Apprentice Butcher program for the 2023 intake.
On completion of the Apprentice Butcher program, you are guaranteed a permanent role on the site. For the right individual you can progress into a supervisory position, and this can be achieved within 2 to 3 years of completing the Apprentice Butcher program.
Apprentice Butcher Responsibilities
You will:
· Learn a trade.
· Earn a recognised qualification.
· Animal Welfare and Stress Prevention
· Handling Livestock
· Understanding Yields
· Boning shoulders and legs of lamb plus dicing and trimming
· Working to customer specifications
· The different cuts and features of a carcass
· Knife Skills
· Lean Manufacturing
The Ideal Candidate
If you are keen and enthusiastic looking to gain an N.V.Q Level 2 in Butchery, a nationally recognised profession qualification then an apprenticeship with us could be the answer. By applying for this apprenticeship not only will it give you the opportunity to ‘Earn while you Learn’ but on the successful completion of the training you will have gained the skills required to move further up the ladder into a supervisor/management role opening a number of career opportunities within the ABP group.
The program is for those who prefer a more practical style of learning you will receive on job training in production working alongside the other apprentices with the site Apprentice Trainer plus support from our Training Provider Crosby Training to complete an N.V.Q Level 2 in Butchery. You will follow a comprehensive training program lasting between 12 – 18 months dependent on your progress. The Apprentice Butcher program is designed to equip you with the skills, knowledge and behaviours to start you on the path of a real career with plenty of opportunities to progress.
To join our Apprentice Butcher program, you will need to be:
· Be ambitious, self-motivate, enthusiastic and eager to learn.

· The desire to progress into a supervisor/management role.
· Ability to communicate with others.
· Committed with a positive attitude.
For candidates without level 1 - English and Math's you will have the opportunity to gain this during the Apprentice Butcher program with the support of our training provider.
Salary & Benefits
Pay: £300 per week
Hours: 40 hours per week Monday to Friday 8.00am to 4.00pm including 2 x 30 minutes paid breaks.

Producing a full range of high-quality lamb and mutton from whole carcass to graded cuts for retail and food service customers. This includes ‘Dorset Crown’ which is a range of premium products local to the area which are processed and packed at the Yetminster site.
