In this varied role, you'll head up the team that takes a closer look at how Aldi is performing and shares best practice knowledge with our international business.
You'll ensure that your team produces the kind of reports that allow the Directors to make business-critical decisions. Importantly, you'll highlight where the finances are heading and flag up any areas that need particular attention. What you say and what you do can have a real impact on the future of Aldi. Your New Role
The successful applicant will report to the VAT Manager and assist them to ensure Aldi remains compliant with all relevant VAT legislation in the UK and Ireland and will be involved in a range of projects. The role provides a great opportunity to develop knowledge of VAT within a large retailer. The successful candidate will also support on topics including:
- VAT reporting and oversight of VAT compliance in the UK and Ireland
- Understanding and documenting tax processes and controls
- Making recommendations and implementing process changes
- Responding to business queries and advising on the VAT impact of projects
- Monitoring changes in case law, legislation and regulation and advising on the impact of changes and implementing any changes required to maintain compliance
- Researching VAT topics under the guidance of the VAT Manager
- Working closely with a range of colleagues from across the business to provide VAT support
- Analysing data to identify trends and anomalies
- Support with key relationships e.g. internal colleagues, Tax Authorities and external advisers
- Working with cross functional colleagues to understand what projects are in the pipeline, with a view to ensuring VAT is included in the scoping and design phase
- Providing VAT training to the business to ensure teams are aware of the VAT issues relevant to their part of the business
About You
- Extensive experience of working in a pure VAT role (i.e. greater than 80% of the role spent on VAT matters
- Deep understanding of complex VAT technical and accounting principles
- Understanding of VAT technical and accounting principles
- An eagerness to development knowledge and practical application within a large business
- Excellent IT skills e.g. SAP, MS Office
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Attention to detail and problem solver
- Positive, can do attitude with a willingness to get stuck in
- Keen interest in analysing data, IT systems and improving processes
- Strong organisational and project management skills
- Takes personal responsibility for resolving queries and issues
What You'll get in Return
- Starting salary from £58,715 rising to £90,615
- Monday to Friday, 8am to 5pm, with the opportunity of 2 days a week remote working
