Located in the Seafield area in the West of Aberdeen, Great Western Medical Practice delivers healthcare for 10,000 patients from the ground floor of a modern health centre.
Great Western Medical Practice are actively looking for a forward thinking Medical Secretary to provide strong secretarial, organisational and administrative support within our Practice.
The successful candidates will ideally have a medical secretarial background and knowledge of medical terminology, with strong computer skills, including fast and accurate audio typing. They will have excellent verbal and written communication skills required to enable communication at all levels, a keen eye for detail, good time management, and the ability to work to tight deadlines. The post holder should be friendly and welcoming; patient and understanding, ensuring the best possible care for our patients and the required support to the rest of the team in a timely manner, ensuring that targets are achieved.
What is expected from the post holder:

Audiotyping – consultations, referrals, letters, reports
- Logging and preparing records requested by patients
- Logging and passing onto GPs the patients' medical reports, insurance companies, etc, then process when completed and post or email as appropriate.
- Checking docman workflow for secretaries and act on individual letters
- Checking for messages on appointment screen and actioning
- Phoning for hospital reports/letters/appointments for patients as requested by GPs
- Photocopying of notes as per requests from patients/solicitors/insurance companies
- Coding of clinical correspondence/coding medical records
- Any administrative tasks deemed appropriate to the post
- Covering telephones in reception as required
- Management of the Appointment System
- Ensuring total familiarity with all appointment systems in effect including regular and incidental variations.
- Booking appointments accurately
Therefore, the successful candidate must have:
- GCSE's or equivalent

- Knowledge of medical terminology
- Ability to code medical records and clinical correspondence
- Time management, attention to detail, and working to tight deadlines
- Be confident using the phone
- Have a good level of IT skills
- An understanding, acceptance and adherence to the need for strictest confidentiality.
About the Practice:
Great Western Medical Practice is made up of various healthcare professionals to meet extensive patient needs and offers a variety of telephone, face-to-face and video appointments between 8am and 6pm, Monday to Friday.
There is carpark available for patients and staff. Practice is close to amenities, including pharmacies, shops and local bus routes.
