Summary of Purpose:
To provide fair balanced, objective, scientific information, and education about OCPI CNS products and related therapeutic areas in order to increase clinical knowledge and improve patient outcomes. To gather medical intelligence through peer-to-peer interactions with key opinion leaders (KOLs), investigators and other healthcare providers and support the head office Medical and brand teams as appropriate and required.
Responsibilities:
- Keep abreast of the current literature, new and emerging research interests, trends, therapeutic issues & needs, and competitive landscape related to the relevant disease areas of focus
- Establish status, with key CNS opinion leaders, as a knowledgeable and trustworthy medical and scientific resource of therapeutic area treatment trends, OCPI CNS product(s), clinical trials and scientific research
- Interact with KOLs to:
- Communicate scientific and clinical research data in a timely, ethical and customer-focused manner
- Communicate scientific and medical information to KOLs, in order to support the safest and most efficacious use of OCPI CNS products
- Deliver fair-balanced scientific presentations to target KOLs and groups of strategic importance, such as hospital and payer committees, as appropriate and necessary
- Identify and support/train medical experts to provide services as speakers, consultants or moderators at national, regional and local conferences, advisory boards and other approved gatherings
- Identify clinical investigators with research proposals that are consistent with the OCPI medical strategy and facilitate the Investigator-Sponsored Trials (ISTs) process, as appropriate
- Evaluate and assess potential sites for participation in Otsuka-sponsored clinical studies and support investigators by providing product-related knowledge and scientific resources
- Serve as a local medical resource for field colleagues cross-functionally and work closely with other stakeholders to meet the scientific and clinical needs of CNS healthcare professionals
- Work with Regulatory Affairs, Sales, Marketing, Market Access and other functions to lead and/or implement selected projects that meet business objectives, as appropriate and mandated by the National Field Manager, Director or Vice-President, Medical Affairs
- Report Safety Information, Product Quality Complaint and Customer Feedback as per training on current procedures
- Performs other related duties as required
Qualifications and Key Competencies:
- MD, PharmD, PhD or equivalent with a minimum of 3-5 years experience as field based medical Science Liaison or Medical Advisor in psychiatry, CNS, neurosciences or related disciplines. Thorough knowledge of clinical medicine, disease management, and medical research
- Proven competence against therapeutic knowledge (specifically in the area of CNS), influencing skills, technology skills, business and market knowledge
- Proven track record of success, especially in the area of opinion leader engagement and experience working with academic centers of excellence
- Must be able to organize, prioritize, and work effectively, independently and in groups in a collegial manner, including cross functional teams and internal/external networking, in a constantly changing environment
- Excellent interpersonal communication and presentation skills (including ability to network), strong personal integrity, teamwork abilities, (including the ability to serve as a role model for activities) and a customer focus are necessary
- Must possess a sound knowledge of the Healthcare System and of the research procedures as well as the ICH guidelines, GCP and other ethical guidelines relevant to the pharmaceutical industry
- Demonstrated ability to comprehend complex scientific data and concepts and communicate effectively to a variety of audiences
- Willingness to travel (³50% travel time) within assigned territory
