Job description

Nesco Resource is seeking a Quality Engineer to work for one our clients based in Waterbury, CT.

Position Summary:
Demonstrate and promote a culture of continuous improvement within the Quality organization. Develop and implement quality inspection and assurance plans/methods, ensuring all processing steps yield salable product that meets or exceeds customer quality requirements. Analyze current process outputs to identify areas needing improvement and collaborate on continuous improvement efforts. Lead quality investigations, including those related to customer complaints, using standardized, structured root cause analysis (RCA) and corrective & preventative action (CAPA) methods. Contribute to the development of staff through direct training, mentoring, and coaching.

Specific Responsibilities:

Quality Planning - Develop/Approve/Implement the following:

  • Quality plans and work instructions
  • Tool/gauge concepts
  • First Article Inspection plans
  • Standard work and methods of inspection
  • Sampling plans

Metrology/Gauging

  • Design and develop inspection fixtures, tools, and gauges.
  • CMM Programming: PC-DMIS software (software specific training may be available)
  • Assist in the selection, development, and implementation of automated gauging and data collection methods.

Non-Conforming Material

  • Work closely with production and engineering regarding the review and disposition of non-conforming material.
  • Work with Sales and Engineering to submit non-conforming material information to customer for waiver when warranted.

Staff Development/Training

  • Provide guidance to inspectors, operators, and engineers to assure compliance to all specifications/customer requirements.
  • Provide training, coaching, and mentoring to address skill/competency deficits with inspectors/operators.

Continuous Improvement

  • Identify opportunities for continuous improvement.
  • Support and implement corrective action requests (Internal and External).
  • Support all aspects of the root cause and corrective action system.
  • Support/lead the Internal Auditing, CAPA, SCAR and other continuous improvement efforts.
  • Support internal QMS requirements around internal auditing, supplier quality, CAPAs, Management Review, complaints, etc.

Preventive Action / Right First Time Efforts

  • Provide Quality Assurance support of PPAP/PFMEA requirements.
  • Facilitate implementation of SPC (Statistical Process Control).

Qualifications:

Required

  • 3+ years of related Quality experience.
  • Working knowledge of military, defense, aerospace, and medical device specifications.
  • Thorough knowledge of manufacturing process and quality systems.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of staff and management, both internal and external.
  • Capacity to work independently (must be self-motivated once given direction/guidance).
  • Ability to perform multiple tasks in parallel and obtain results within strict time frames.

Preferred

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or equivalent discipline.
  • Working knowledge of SPC, Root Cause Analysis and Six Sigma/Lean Manufacturing techniques a plus.
  • Proficient in MS Office software including Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
  • Experience with or ability to learn programming and operation of Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMM).
  • Experience in gauge R&R studies.
