The Chemours Company headquartered in Wilmington, DE has a Mechanical Engineer position available in Corpus Christi TX. This is a highly visible, key role within Chemours and the Thermal & Specialized Solutions Business. This position is in the Fluorochemicals Manufacturing Technology team and will report to the Manufacturing Technology Manager.
This role will serve as a Support Engineer for one or more areas of the Chemours Assets at this facility. The individual will provide overall Mechanical Engineering guidance and support for the Operations, Maintenance, and Technology Teams for their area(s). This role will entail involvement in day-to-day troubleshooting in the plant, as well as support for improvement programs in the areas of Safety (PSM), UPTIME, reliability, cost, new capital installations, etc.
The responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to, the following:
  • The operating units are highly hazardous processes (OSHA PSM Covered Processes). The role will include but are not limited to the following:
  • To provide engineering and troubleshooting assistance to the site’s unit processes, including all synthesis, refining, storage, and shipping operations to maintain and improve the safety, operability, quality, and cost.
  • Monitor the process on an on-going basis to look for positive and negative shifts in the process, to identify improvement opportunities. Uptime Software, Aspen Process Explorer software and statistical process control would routinely be used to do this.
  • Leads and participates in Safety, Reliability and Quality Investigations to identify and implement actions to drive continuous improvement.
  • Provides support for both cost and capital projects to improve the safety, quality, environment, and/or cost of the production unit. This includes scoping out, justifying, and coordinating installation of new/modified facilities
  • Participate in and lead Process Hazards Analyses per the schedule set out for the assigned process.
  • Perform experiments on the process to improve the safety, quality, environment, and/or cost of the production unit.
  • Maintain level of technical expertise in key technologies via training, seminars, and professional organizations
  • Provide shift/weekend coverage for start-ups, tests, maintenance Turnarounds or other non-routine needs. Travel requirements are <10%.
The following is required for this role:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering from an ABET accredited university
  • Minimum of 1 year of related industrial / manufacturing work experience (will consider degree relevant intern / co-op experience counting toward this requirement)
  • Demonstrated knowledge of basic chemical engineering principles
  • Demonstrated skill to diagnose and solve technical problems – making data-based decisions.
  • Demonstrated ability to work both independently and in a team environment
  • Demonstrated excellent oral and written communication skills with strong customer focus and ability to conceptualize customer needs based on customer input. Proven ability to effectively communicate through all levels of an organization
  • High degree of initiative and flexibility to move projects forward safely and in a timely manner
  • Proven ability to prioritize and manage short duration deadlines, emergency situations, and multiple priorities
  • Willing and able to wear required PPE (personal protective equipment) such as steel toes, hard hat, Nomex, eye protection, respirators, etc.
  • Proficient in the use of computers

The following is preferred for this role:
  • 3+ years of experience in related manufacturing industry or Military Equivalent Experience (includes co-op or related industrial experience)
  • Already experienced with strong background in the following:
  • Experience in working with fixed and/or rotating equipment
  • Maintenance and reliability best practices including the work management process and basic materials science including material selection and properties
  • Knowledge in related fields such as non-destructive testing, welding, fabrication, working with third party fabricators
  • Knowledge of ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code, ASME Piping Codes and API Codes, welding and fabrication processes and repair procedures
  • Root cause failure analysis (RCFA) and failure mode and effect analysis (FMEA), data analysis techniques and statistical interpretation skills, failure analysis including preservation of evidence techniques, and engineering design standards and their application, Cost/Capital analysis and justification
  • Prior experience working with field personnel in operations troubleshooting activities
  • Strong background in Root Cause Failure Analysis (RCFA)
  • Previous experience working with SAP
