Position: Marketing and Communications Officer
Location: Hybrid remote with a minimum of 2 days per week in the office required (Pembury)
Hours: Full-time, 40 hours per week
Salary: £21,674 (£10.42 per hour)
We have a fantastic opportunity to join our team as a Marketing and Communications Officer to help us tell our story as we strive towards our mission of empowering people on the autism spectrum and with learning disabilities and their families, through our network of services.
This is the job for you if have excellent writing skills and know how to bring a story to life. You’ll be confident using digital channels of communication to engage with our audiences, using email marketing, social media, web and video, as well as traditional methods such as writing press releases and building on our media coverage. You’ll use your initiative to come up with creative solutions and actively seek opportunities to increase our reach and engagement across our platforms.

Overview of Role
Aspens provides high quality support to people on the autism spectrum and with learning disabilities, and their families, through a network of services across the South-East of England. As we work towards our vision for an inclusive society where every individual on the autism spectrum and with learning disabilities can thrive as part of their local community, the effective communication of our work, achievements and the positive impact it has on the lives of those it supports is of huge importance.
We are seeking a Marketing and Communications Officer to join our small, but effective team. The key objectives underpinning all you do, in line with our five-year strategy, are to increase awareness of Aspens’ vision, mission and values with the charity’s key internal and external stakeholders, increase our influence and raise our profile as a provider of high-quality care and support. You will help to raise awareness our work through building on our media and press coverage and increasing the reach of our external newsletter, website and social media.
You will ensure the voice of the people Aspens supports is heard and that issues of importance to them and their families are communicated effectively. Your marketing and communication activities will help to fill staff vacancies and increase staff retention and engagement, boost voluntary income, increase support through donations and volunteering and ensure people who require our services are reached.
You will measure key marketing data to inform future activities and help with strategic planning.
Responsibilities
· Supporting the Marketing and Communications Manager to deliver the Marketing/Communications plan in line with Aspens’ five-year strategy
· Raising and maximising awareness of Aspens’ profile, telling the story of our work, promoting issues of importance to the people we support and giving them a voice through content creation for our external channels including: social media, website, external newsletter, press/media
· Management of social media platforms; including content planning, creation and scheduling, monitoring of inboxes/messages and any comments or online activity relating to Aspens
· Production of a wide range of content including press releases, written case studies, website/newsletter articles
· Production of graphics and artwork using Aspens branding guidelines, for marketing purposes (posters/leaflets/social media graphics etc)
· Supporting the delivery of the internal communications plan, including production of weekly staff bulletin using Mailchimp platform and updating staff intranet
· Providing regular support, including some administrative duties, to the fundraising department, such as setting up events on our fundraising platform, promotion of events and initiatives
· Providing charity wide marketing and comms support to all departments across the charity, including retail, recruitment and operations
· Producing and updating content (imagery, case studies, impact data) to assist with fundraising grant applications, award applications/nominations, bid writing
· Assisting with building marketing and comms bank of images, including photography and video
· Producing marketing collateral (signage, banners, artwork, leaflets etc.) and managing stock levels of marketing materials
· Representing Aspens at a variety of events, some of which may require evening or weekend attendance
· Administrational tasks connected to marketing and communications activities as required
· Analysis and measuring of KPI data using tools such as Google Analytics to ensure optimisation, efficiency and success of marketing and communications activities
Essential Personal Skills and Experience
· Minimum of 1 year’s marketing and/or communications experience
· Driven by Aspens’ core values of empowerment, inclusivity and integrity
· Creative, with lots of ideas for engaging content
· Highly organised and able to work under own initiative
· Problem solver able to come up with creative solutions
· Confident collaborating with wide range of internal and external stakeholders
· Excellent communication skills
· Excellent copywriting, grammar and punctuation
· Experience editing websites
· Experience creating and scheduling content for social media platforms: Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn
· IT skills
Desirable Personal Skills and Experience
· Graphic design skills
· Photography and video (creation/editing) experience
· Experience using Powerpoint, Canva, Mailchimp, Xcel, Google Analytics
