Our client is a leading set of Legal Barristers' Chambers, specialising in Media and Entertainment law, comprising of 34 Barristers', including 9 KCs. They have an outstanding reputation in the fields of Defamation, Privacy, Data Protection, Intellectual Property and Sports Law. Chambers currently seek a bright, ambitious Junior Assistant to join their highly regarded clerking team. This is a fantastic opportunity for an individual to join a set that has been described as the “first port of call for any defamation, privacy or data protection matter”.
The position would ideally suit a recent school/sixth-form leaver. The successful candidate will have a natural aptitude for hard work and be able to interact with a variety of different personalities, often from many different walks of life. You will have the ability to think quickly, work well under pressure and show initiative, whilst being able to work easily within a team environment.
Candidates will be educated to GCSE standard (with grades of A-C/5-9 in Mathematics and English), be articulate, are keen learners and possess excellent team skills.

JOB PURPOSE: To assist 5RB Members, Senior Clerk/Deputy Senior Clerk and all other
Clerks/Admin team in the day to day duties of running an efficient Clerk’s room.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: To be performed in conjunction with and subject to the supervision of the Senior Clerk/ Deputy Senior Clerk/Practice Manager/Assistant Practice Managers.
SCHEDULE: Monday-Friday 08:30-17:30
Clerking:
- A significant amount of heavy lifting when delivering boxes to and from court.
- Liaising with barristers’ with regard to the preparation of authorities bundles.
- Assisting with entering instructions and sending acknowledgements.
- When required to do so, inputting barristers hours spent on the time recording system.
- Day-to-day management of post, including opening and distribution, and organising outgoing post for collection.
- Arranging for couriers to collect papers as required.
- Printing e-mailed instructions and collating them into files for distribution.
- Answering the telephone.
- Greeting solicitors and clients when arriving for conferences.
- Attending weekly Clerks’ meetings.
General Office duties:
- Keeping Chambers library tidy and up to date including filing loose leaf updates.
- Responsible for Chambers trolleys’ (making sure they are put away and secured each
evening and left inside court when left during the day).
- Keeping Chambers stationery, tea, coffee, stamps etc well supplied.
- Setting up the Conference Rooms and making tea/coffee when required.
- Emptying the dishwashers.
- Emptying bins of papers for shredding and ensuring the safe custody of the contents until
- collection by the relevant company.
Marketing:
- To assist on occasions for planning and implementing of marketing initiatives for chambers, attending marketing initiatives when required in the evenings; developing and nurturing good relations with clients and potential clients.
Personal development:
- Attending such external training courses as may be reasonably required or approved by the Management Committee to develop further knowledge and skills to fulfil these responsibilities.
