Platform Resourcing are working with a well-established engineering company based in Cwmbran who are looking to strengthen their workforce by taking on a new Manufacturing Engineer.

The successful candidate will need to be qualified in Mechanical Engineering either HNC/ HND, Level 3 or degree qualified. Ideally, they will have strong proven experience of using Lean practices in a working environment. They will need at least 3-5 years’ experience working in a similar role in a manufacturing environment that produces engineered types of products, preferably within assembly and/or CNC machining environments as well as having CI tools experience.

The main purpose of the role is to identify, evaluate, manage and establish process requirements for the safe and effective production of products, ensuring adherence to best practice and legal compliance relating to Environmental Health and Safety within operations.

Manufacturing Engineer Benefits:

  • Salary of between £38,000 - £40,000, dependent on experience
  • 37hrs per week. Monday – Thursday 08:00 – 16:30, Friday 08:00 – 13:00. However, due to the nature of the role, flexibility is required.
  • 33 days annual leave per annum (inclusive of Bank Holidays in 2023 being 9 this year, usually 8 per year)

Manufacturing Engineer Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Identify opportunities to improve business efficiency, reduce waste, improve quality and safety performance and to ensure sustainment, following best practice and ensuring legal compliance relating to EH&S.
  • Develop and implement manufacturing processes and procedures (SOPs, Work Instructions etc.) that are aligned to produce quality assured products in a safe and efficient environment.
  • Ensuring production routes / times are correct and all manufacturing costs are monitored to provide data to support operational decisions.
  • Analysing manufacturing process flows, continually, for enhancements in quality, safety, cost reductions and throughput while ensuring quality, safety and cost meets site and customer requirements.
  • Conduct capability and viability studies in relation to the introduction of new processes and products.
  • Communicate technical information between various manufacturing departments.
  • Lead the application of lean manufacturing within production processes, ensuring production staff are trained in LEAN principles and understand the tools and techniques required to ensure a sustained improvement program.
  • Lead the project management of changes to production processes.
  • Creation and maintenance of accurate documentation of all manufacturing processes in line with quality control standards.
  • Continually review, evaluate and improve existing process control documentation (SPCs etc.) to ensure continued compliance with all operational systems including Quality, Engineering and Customer specification.
  • Co-ordinate the development of tooling, jigs, fixtures and equipment for production.
  • Conferring with vendors, as appropriate, in determining product specification, developing and arranging fixturing, test facilities, equipment, gauging and tooling for production.
  • Supporting teams with equipment and product installation, set-up and running requirements.
  • Manage sub-contractors when required.
  • Conduct risk assessments.
  • Maintain a safe and clean working environment at all times.
  • Undertake training as identified by the post holder and/or line manager and take part in development opportunities, also supporting other team members with training and guidance, working within company policies and procedures and legislative rules and regulations.

Manufacturing Engineer Essential Experience and Qualifications:

  • Preferably degree/ HNC/ HND qualified in Mechnical Engineering, if Level 3 qualified in NVQ or C&G’s you will need proven experience within a very similar role for a minimum of 5 years.
  • Proven ability to create process improvement plans that have resulted in cost and waste reduction, increased productivity & output, and overall efficiency.
  • At least 3-5 years’ experience working in a manufacturing environment that produces engineered type products, ideally assembly and/or CNC machining.
  • Experience of using Lean methodology and CI tools.
  • Being a hands on Engineer, visible on Production floor as well as at a desk.
  • Proven ability to create process improvement plans that have resulted in cost and waste reduction, increased productivity & output, and overall efficiency.
  • You will ideally hold a Lean qualification or be working towards one (if no qualification experience in similar role will be accepted).
  • Experienced in providing risk assessments, always keeping an up-to-date knowledge of all company policies and procedures and legislative rules and regulations.
  • Able to provide training to employees at various levels and support across the business.
  • The individual must have excellent organisational, communication and influencing skills.
