We are looking for two exceptional managers to join our team.

About our roles

At Citizens Advice Plymouth our managers manage our frontline staff and put our people at the heart of everything we do to ensure we are providing our clients with the highest quality of service and are fully developing our staff.

To lead a team of around 10 people, who will be a combination of advisers, caseworkers, and administrators. You will ensure they deliver the highest standards of advice and customer service. This includes developing, coaching, and mentoring advisers and caseworkers who provide holistic advice to clients.

You will be managing the day-to-day running of the projects and will be the first point of contact for your teams. You will be responsible for the day-to-day line management of your team, including all HR processes. You will be a role model, managing the team in line with the behaviour framework at Citizens Advice Plymouth.

You will also be required to provide support across all the projects in the department and be flexible to meet the demands of our service.

You will be an excellent people manager, with experience of motivating, inspiring and leading teams to achieve high quality standards and performance targets. You will care about people and be able to adapt to get the best from them as individuals. You will be comfortable with producing reports, leading meetings, quality assessing your team’s work, and adapting to the changing needs of the service.

You will be able to prioritise your workload well, communicate clearly and effectively, and make sure our policies are implemented consistently.

We are recruiting for two manager roles. The roles are 37 hours a week (9-5 Monday-Thursday and 9-4:30 on Fridays) on a permanent basis.

One role will have a hybrid contract, with a minimum of 4 days a month in the office at Cobourg House, 32 Mayflower Street, Plymouth. You will be expected to be able to attend the office at short notice if required and during your initial first 3 months you will be expected to attend the office for induction and full training.

The other role, on our Local Services Team, will be based in the office full-time.

We anticipate this role to start in July 2023, with interviews in June.

Who we are looking for

We are looking for someone with previous experience to support, develop and manage the continued growth of our projects. You will have experience of managing people and be able to apply human resource policies and make decisions for the wellbeing of your team.

You will manage people from different projects, ensuring that we continue to support and develop our staff and drive consistency to give an award-winning service to our clients.

You will be working within Citizens Advice Plymouth’s aims and principles and our regulated industry initiative. You will need to have the skills to manage and support your team to provide debt advice, income maximisation and energy efficiency advice. You will be trained and developed on the charity advice sector essentials of the role.

You will be a positive leader and have a passion for supporting and developing people. You will need to be resilient to manage difficult conversations well and not be afraid to tackle difficult situations head on. You will embrace change and have the openness and insight to be a great leader. You will need to have the skill to actively listen and want to take the necessary steps to provide equitable support for wellbeing.

You will be resilient to deal with safeguarding and suicidal conversations with our clients and receive training to be a Mental Health First Aider.

Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, are essential, as is the ability to effectively communicate with our people with a non-judgmental approach. You will need to have the ability to accurately communicate messages and hold discussions to ensure transparency, consistency and understanding.

You will have continued support from the Senior Operations Manager who will provide daily mentoring and coaching with the additional ongoing peer support from other managers.

You will build strong relationships with stakeholders and develop different partnerships to ensure that all key performance indicators are exceeded.

You will undertake the Citizens Advice Plymouth management training package and ensure you keep a continued focus on health and wellbeing and people management.

You will have an excellent understanding of equality, diversity, inclusion and work to promote and enhance this through our organisation. You won’t be afraid to challenge staff, managers or leaders to help us remain legal, ethical and credible and make sure we are being as equitable as possible in our people decisions.

You will be an excellent communicator – able to communicate assertively but calmly and compassionately, speak confidently to people at all levels of the organisation, and write clearly and concisely, avoiding the use of jargon where possible.

Excellent IT skills are essential, and you should enjoy working as part of a busy, motivated and supportive team and be able to adapt well to changing priorities.
