What’s the scope of the role?


As ‘Technical Governance Authority for Operational Technology Systems’, your role will be to provide technical governance, oversight, and support for the OT Systems of offshore and onshore Wind, PV, and Battery Storage assets.

Residing in the Governance and Support Team of the Central Technical Organisation (CTO) Engineering function where the team is made up of other Technical Governance Authorities and Engineers across other engineering disciplines, who collectively set standards, monitor conformity, and provide technical support in the pursuit of engineering excellence across all our business units within EDF Renewables UK & Ireland.


What you’ll be doing day to day.


In this varied and interesting role, you will be involved in the whole lifecycle, from the design phase of development and construction projects, through to 3rd-line support for complex operational issues, including acting as Technical Authority for Asset Management of Change reviews and life extension assessments.


You will be working with external bodies, and lead activity undertaken by third parties such as consultants. You will be successful in establishing and maintaining working relationships with stakeholders and external organisations in addition to;

  • Act as the Technical Governance Authority focusing on the Asset Integrity and reliability of the OT Systems.
  • Be responsible for setting internal standards for the compliance/conformity with relevant legislation, standards, and industry good practice.
  • Support the standardisation and improvement of technical specifications and other technical documents within the wider Engineering team and EDF Renewables.
  • Support on the implementation and embedding of new governance.
  • Support on technical investigations, non-conformances, and other requests which are escalated.
  • Support the business in finding robust and innovative value adding solutions to technical needs through continuous improvement, and by adding value solutions. This includes monitoring for and investigation of new and emerging technologies, materials, and techniques relevant to EDF Renewables business and their use to provide innovative solutions.
  • Interface with EDF Group and technical design authorities within the industry to obtain the necessary specialist support to resolve technical issues or provide specialist instruction for engineering activities.
  • Responsible for monitoring conformity with the set governance relevant to the OT Systems discipline (development / construction projects, operation, and end of life).


What do you need to be great at this role?


You will have multi-disciplinary experience in one or more of the following areas: OT networks, Process Control Systems, OT Cyber Security, and auxiliary systems such as condition monitoring, alarm management, CCTV, access control systems, and general understanding of control and instrumentation.

  • A degree in relevant Engineering discipline. Having CEng status is highly desirable.
  • Membership of a relevant engineering professional body is desirable.
  • NEBOSH or IOSH (or equivalent) is desirable.
  • Highly experienced and knowledgeable engineer, with at least 10 years in either managing, maintaining, or designing OT Systems.
  • Experience of managing risks and challenges in the renewable energy sector is highly desirable, particularly with knowledge in the design and O&M of OT Systems:
    • OT Networks
    • Basic Process Control Systems
    • SCADA servers / Historians/ Operator HMI
    • OT Cyber security
    • BS EN 62443/61508/62061/61511/61850/62682
  • Strong commitment to safety, health, environment, and quality.
  • Good command of Microsoft Office package (MS Excel, MS Word, MS Power Point, etc.).
  • Flexible to travel around the UK and overseas as the role requires.
  • Full UK driving licence.
  • Excellent English (oral and written) communication skills.
  • Capacity to work on multiple concurrent tasks and to prioritise changing demands from both projects and the operational sites
  • On occasions you will visit EDF onshore and offshore sites within the UK & Ireland to inspect assets. Experience with renewable energy and project management / design management is desirable.
