Matlock/Hybrid working – full time, fixed-term post for 2 years

Are you an experienced project manager? Do you have a passion for the natural environment and working with stakeholders? Could you be the person to help create a Local Nature Recovery Strategy for Derbyshire and Derby?

This is an exciting opportunity for a dynamic and committed individual to lead our work developing a Local Nature Recovery Strategy for Derbyshire.

You will work with a wide range of partners and stakeholders including other local authorities, conservation organisations, landowners, statutory bodies to establish the strategic framework for nature recovery in Derbyshire. Your practical project management experience and passion for the natural environment will enable you to lead the creation of a Strategy that will coordinate nature recovery across the county and facilitate the appropriate delivery of Biodiversity Net Gain through the planning system, as well as the targeting of environmental stewardship schemes.

You will be joining a multi-disciplinary environmental team and have a manager and other colleagues who are supportive and keen to facilitate your delivery of this project.

What will I be doing:

  • Working with partners and stakeholders to understand their ambitions for nature recovery across Derby and Derbyshire.
  • Using a wide variety of national and local data sources as well as access to specialists and experts to understand the current environmental quality and character of the county
  • Interpreting this information to develop a collective understanding of the capacity for environmental change, prioritising and targeting action to the most appropriate and beneficial areas
  • Leading the production of a Strategy that encapsulates the above to inform an ambitious yet deliverable agenda for nature recovery in Derbyshire
  • Represent the LNRS partnership and process at meetings, workshops, and stakeholder groups as well as within Board meetings, Steering Groups and meetings of core partners, as well as communicating the strategy to the public.

What skills and experience do you need to have:

  • Be enthusiastic, versatile and self-motivated with the ability to work individually and as part of a team
  • Ability to work confidently with a wide variety of stakeholders, partners and external agencies
  • Experience of managing projects, working under pressure to deliver projects on time and on budget
  • A sound understanding of environmental issues and priorities, nature conservation and biodiversity, and environmental policy in England.
  • Excellent interpersonal and presentation skills with the ability to communicate with and influence a wide variety of audiences, and to produce effective written reports, publications, press releases and more

Our Conservation, Heritage and Design Service is contractually based in Matlock, Derbyshire, but as part of our Modern Ways of Working programme we are currently working on a hybrid basis with opportunity for blended office and homeworking. There'll be an opportunity to discuss future working arrangements at interview.
