Roles and Responsibilities
Reporting to the Camp Manager, a NPLQ Lifeguard is responsible for the following:
- Safety of all children and staff using the swimming pool
- Ensure all participants follow the swimming pool code of conduct strictly
- You may only be required for a few hours of the day and therefore may be asked to support and/or deliver the Multi-Sports Active programme, combining different sports and activities for 4 to 14 year olds.
- Be able to work proactively and collaboratively with your peers.
- Maintain professional relationships with children, staff, parents, and carers; communicating effectively.
- Checking and organising equipment and site
- Setting activity areas up
- General cleaning and tidying
- When agreed with the manager, you may be responsible for looking after a group of up to 20 children (ratios vary depending on child ages), delivering high-energy, fun, and inclusive sessions that ensure every child is engaged and has lots of fun, regardless of their ability. Activities can include a variety of sports, arts & crafts and basic cookery. Each session is typically (depending on age) between 30 and 60 minutes long.
Camp for Champs staff are not expected to stand on the side-lines, instead, they actively participate, showcasing skills, demonstrating good practice and most importantly…having fun!
What Makes a great NPLQ Lifeguard? (Person Specification)

- A willingness to liaise with parents/carers, delivering high-quality customer service
- A real team player who is happy to rotate duties and form positive relationships
- You’ll need to be flexible, with a willingness to adapt
- Possess a fun and vibrant personality
- A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people
- Ability to establish a respectful and trusting relationship with children and young people
Experience of working with 4 to 14 year olds delivering activities is desirable and you must hold a NPLQ Lifeguard qualification that is in date.
Locations, Working Hours & Pay
- We run camps across Essex, Hertfordshire and Surrey. This role is for Surrey.
- Hours vary each day in line with child numbers and the needs of our Champs but we’re looking for staff to be fully available between 8am and 6pm, Monday to Friday, during the school holidays
- Rate of pay is £9-12 per hour depending on experience
- We have opportunities available for full weeks or just a few days, giving you increased flexibility around your work or studies
- Team members children attend camp for FREE when working
